Ok I know a few of these might have been listed before but these are the ones I think should be incorparated into civIV

1. An upgrade for all units

I always found it annoying to have ancient units cluttering up the battle field when its the modern age, warriors, legionaries, etc.

2.More units

While more may not always be better, I thought that civ 3 didn't have enough units. Afterall we are spanning human history from the ancient times to the modern day and there are a whole lot of units that could be added to civ4!

3.Catastrophes

Catastrophes have shaped the world around us, wheather can stir up hurricanes that would sink fleets, tornadoes that could ravish cities, and blizzards that could stop armies in their tracks. Disasters should also occur through man made disasters ie ships sinking, stock market crashes,etc. If catastrophes are added into civ4 you should be able to toggle them on and off as to accomodate the preference of the user.

4. Espionage that's worth it

I've found that espionage in civ3 isn't really worth it. You pay huge amounts of gold on a mission that won't really help you, and will probably fail. Espionage should definitely be revamped in civ4 to include options that aren't ridiclous and that don't cost a fortune!

5. Media

There really needs to be some sort of media or newspaper thing that would pop up every 20 turns or so that would inform the player what was going on in the game, who is winning, what diasters have occured, what countries are at war,etc. It would effectively be like a summary of the game so far and would give the game a feeling of "connection" Once again the user should be able to toggle this option on and off.

6. This :spear: should never happen again.

Pretty self-explanatory.

7. Show reputation

We all know that if you nuke your enemy or don't honor a deal your "reputation" goes down and other civs will be less likely to deal with you. Well I've always found it really annoying not being able to see this reputation, So if its going to be in civ4 ( I'm not sure if there going to drop it out like they are doing with corruption and the other "unfun elements") there should at least be a reputation meter or advisor or something.

8. Smart(er) AI

I once had a game where I was situated between Egypt and Greece. Egypt and Greece were at war with eachother and they kept on moving their troops into my territory. Every turn I had to tell them to get off of my land. After a while they signed a peace treaty,and declared war on me.The AI really needs to be able to take a hint.

9.The Olympics

A wonder could be the olympic stadium and whoever built it could get a good deal of culture. The olympic games could be held every 20 turns or so and whatever country wins could get 100 gold.

10. Giant Death Robots See Perfection's thread.:mischief:

Questions, comments, concerns?

EDIT One more idea inspired by a graphic modpack,
Turn mines into towns or settlements as it makes a lot more sense than just having a mine sitting out in the middle of nowhere.

I really like the Media idea...the Media has a powerful place in historical as current events, yet is is completley ignored in Civ. They even took out "Radio" as a tech.

What units didn't upgrade? The only one I can think of (assuming C3C) is the Cavalry.

I think he means auto-upgrade, so that you (or the AI especially) can't just have really obsolete units sitting around, unupgraded.

The only reason an upgrade doesn't happen is because a team is backwards in either tech, cash, or resources. The AI will definitely upgrade if it has all 3. Why should they be cut a break iof they don't? They should be stomped.

I have vanilla civ3 so quite a few don't upgrade.

I didn't mean auto upgrade but thats a pretty good idea. :goodjob:

If you implemented auto-upgrade where is the strategic thinking? This makes one less important decision you have to make. Important decisions are the point of a strategy game and removing that would weaken the experience.

shadowdude, why not upgrade your game? Firaxis solved that problem 2 years ago. If you don't feel like spending the $10-$20 for C3C, 20 minutes with the editor will solve this issue.

Once again, if the option of auto-upgrade is put in the game it should be able to be toggled on and off so as to fit the preference of the user.

23 minutes to be exact ;)

It's been tried. It's too powerful (and not realistic, but I'm not a stickler for realism). There isn't a lot of point building up large military if they can be wiped out cheaply.

I really like the newspaper idea. Keeping the player informed of who's on top and what's going etc. I know there is that F8 screen to give you details and you can check who's at war with whom with F4, but I still think this is a good idea.

I also like the 'reputation meter'. If there is some attribute that I should be interested in controlling, I want quantitative numbers about how I am doing. (Not furious, annoyed, cautious, polite, and gracious) and more info on what affects it. (reputation advisor or something)

Guys, haveany of you heard of the Civ3 addon called "The Way of Atlantis"? (or so - i only have a Russian version and don't know the original English name).

The tech-tree in this addon is REALLY superb. I've never seen anything better than the elaborated and rich technological developments than in this game. - And they do have radio, mass media, and even ceber-killers techs in this addons....
THe only problem the is that I could not find any vertion of the Way of Atlantis adjusted for C3C - so the game lacks lots of terran funcions (like volcano eruptions, plague, swamp areas etc.) and scenaeio flexibility.

So I'de personally be sutisfied with the technological tree of the Way of Atlantis in the Civ4 but with more interactive map functions.

You are correct, there should be a limit to how many units could be effect, say about 4 would sound good to me.

@Batho
Glad you like the idea :D I always thought there should be some unified type of stats.

@Onza
Never heard of "The Way of Atlantis"

@NP300
If you haven't had a tank lose to a spearman you haven't been playing the game long enough, so just play a little longer and It'll happen.

:bump: new idea!

Revamp the Manhattan Project

The manhattan project made the United States the first nation to be able to create Nuclear weapons. However, in civ when you build the manhattan project all nations get nuclear weapons at the same time. I would propose that the first nation to build the Manhattan project gets a 15 turn lead on other nations. After the 15th turn, all nations could buils nukes.

Or, better yet, make the Manhattan Project a Great Wonder that grants "Nuclear Capabilities" to the owner. "Nuclear Capabilities" could be traded, and, if you get a spy in a country with "Nuclear Capabilities," you have a chance of getting "Nuclear Capabilities" yourself!

Manhattan Project should be redone as a small wonder and you muust build it before you can have nukes.

They changed this so you can make this mod. I've tried it in the past and it worked.
