If it's brown, flush it down. If it's yellow, let it mellow.

I flush every time. I'll usually flush again just to be sure, actually.

And if the toilet's still running when I get back in bed, no way I'm getting up to jiggle the handle . . .

No way man. Urine will start gunking up your toilet if it sits in there long enough.

It's usually a delicate balance of keeping the toilet clean, but not wasting water. I figure that needing to clean the toilet with chemicals probably is tougher on the environment that flushing a little more frequently.

This is a totally disgusting and unhygienic idea. I'll tell you why.

When your piss hits the water in the commode, it is not in the form of a continuous stream, it is in the form of drops. This causes tiny droplets of spray to fly out of the commode, covering a large area.

If you've just pissed in that before, and not flushed, you're effectively spraying everything in the radius of a few meters with piss - which is very definitely a very bad thing.

I'd rather flush every time and use a little more water, rather than getting myself and everything else get dirty.

To show what Aneesh means:

Drape a piece of toilet paper across your toilet, so that it goes over the water (it'll need to be long enough to go down the sides on the outside of the bowl, to give it enough weight and friction to stay). Then pee underneath it. If you see a mist form on the paper (you'll recongise it when you see it), then you'll know what he's talking about.

They're ways to pee to prevent this spray from occurring.

Why should I lower my standard of living to compensate for bad Federal and State policies. I use water like I want to and the bad governments can shove it.

Why would you take your frustration out on the environment?

The government should just build more dams if they want to squeeze more people into low water areas (East coast Australia for example).

EDIT: That wasn't answering you exactly. I don't think I'm releasing frustration on the environment but I don't want to change to compensate for bad governance. If they can't do a good job get out and let me take over!!!

This the same policy/mindset as those people who smoke weed. They think it's a bad law, and they're willing to break the law - never minding the grand consequences.

If you think the policies are bad, try to change them. Meanwhile, it's shown that we can modify our lives in such a way to reduce our impact upon the environment. The more sustainable our environment is kept (without impacting economic growth), the more we can benefit (individually) long-term.

Me not flushing the toilet won't stop Africans from dying. Besides, we have enough water in Finland.

And most importantly, I don't want my flat to reek of urine. :ack:

I once read somewhere that it's only in the United States where toilets flush with fresh water. The rest of the world's toilets use already "dirty" water to carry refuse to the sewer.

Explains a lot I think.
That's not true :)

If a toilet has something in it, it gets flushed. This might change in a desert area though

Hmm I don't understand... I'm not breaking any law nor do I think any specific law is bad in this regard. I'm merely not going to lower my standard of living to accommodate bad policy making by the governments.

The only time I don't flush is if I've had a ton of water and my pee is clear, otherwise I flush.
