Hey, I'm thinking of making a mod that add a good amount of stuff to BNW. The mod is centered around making the game easier and not as onotenous in the earlier eras, and fixing some problems. Things like more wonders and buildings new WC resolutions/projects and most importantly great works so if your on a bigger map you don't run out of them, now while music may not be possible I can still add art an literature. So what great works would you add, I having problems thinking of some. Any suggestions would be great!

Also I know some people wished there were more types of art, so if you can think of anything that is not European, american or Asian i'll consider that too.
If your wondering about my mod here is the forums link be sure to leave ideas there too!

Is there a list including everything already in? Some of these may be duplicates.

I guess I would add at least the following, with both classical and modern influences in mind:

Great Works of Writing
- Children's and Household Tales (Brothers Grimm)
- The Lord of the Rings (J.R.R Tolkien)
- Slaughterhouse-five (Kurt Vonnegut)
- Divine Comedy (Dante Alighieri)

Great Works of Music
- Maple Leaf Rag (Scott Joplin)
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles)
- New World Symphony (Antonín Dvořák)
- Valse Triste (Jean Sibelius)
- The Liberty Bell (John Philip Sousa)
- Entrance of the Gladiators (Julius Fučík)

These are all culturally influential works, although the more recent ones like LoTR may have copyright issues to handle. And some aren't the artists' best known works, but I'd avoid works like "Finlandia" and "Stars and Stripes Forever" that establish a connection with a certain civilization or nation in their name.

Edit: found the list in Civilization wiki (see here). Struck out those already in.

Add "The Motherland Calls" it's a Soviet era statue (largest non-religious statue in the world) that was going to be added but wasn't because of a copyright. That alone makes the mod worth it :p

Edit: I'm sure you know, but the artwork is already done for it.

Sequm, totally seconded. That statue is terrifyingly great.

I had all the wonders planned but I'd totally add that, anyone know where all the art files are any way I need the sizes of the great works of art so I have something to compare to.

Yea the last thing I'd want is copyrights down my neck.

I was surprised they omitted (or at the very least, I haven't seen) any great works by Antonín Dvořák, Considering his New World Symphony made it into Civ IV (It's actually how I came to admire his works)

EDIT: Late to the party again? Not surprising I haven't seen it, I suppose, in the 3 BNW games i've played thus far.

In that case, just throw Twilight in there and it would round it out nicely.

Probably not I want to avoid copyright claims.

Oh boy, after revising the list I can't believe they left these out...

Writing
- The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway)
- Nineteen Eighty-Four (George Orwell)
- The Importance of Being Earnest (Oscar Wilde)

Thanks guys these are great! If you can think of art, the artist is good for its art, while if writings and music runout the second abilities are useful most of the time.

Too bad I know paintings much worse than books and music. And my taste in even those two are fairly limited.

You could include these for art:
- A Grotesque Old Woman (Quentin Matsys) *
- Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1 (James Whistler)

* this one is exactly what is says on the tin, see the picture

Carmina Burana - Carl Orff

The Four Seasons - Antonio Vivaldi

I will NOT replace anything the only reason I adding is so that people dont run out of great works in larger games.

I'd only like to see it "spawn" from Russia if I was in game (is it in game??), but I think it would be cool if Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture was included. Anything to snub Napoleon
