Actually, it sounds more like he's sending 20 units to defend his smallest forts. On some of the siege battles with larger forts I could have done with larger armies!
Yeah forts get pretty big pretty quickly. I don't know how much better it is in Shogun (but their castles are also a very different design) but the series in general really needs to improve siege warfare, especially since sieges were the main thing that happened during war time until the last few hundred years.
I find it's much better, or at least different enough from previous games. I've also noticed the AI is more willing to march out and launch an attack before you reach their castles.
If you are ranting about over simplification of factions, I would reccomend you turn you head to the east. Specificaly, Byzantium and the Muslim nations. Rather then even pretended to implement Byzantium's actual army, they just gave her a crapton of horse archers that are better then anything the seljuks could find. (Heck, Vardarotai can defeat French Lancers without too much fuss.)
Well, more realistic would be nice.
"I'm sorry Council of Nobles, I couldn't conquer Nuremburg for you because I was busy fighting off the Spanish in Toulouse and the Milanese in Italy."
