If you give stuff away, does the AI attack you?

I'll have spare resources and will give them to AI's that are struggling.

These are Civ's I have no intention of attacking, but I'd like them to be able to put up a fight if someone else does.

Eventually they attack me, no matter how strong I am and how weak they are.

Does giving something away trigger hostility? Does it make them think you are weak, despite having 10 more cities and four times the military they do?

hmmm...

Bushido

What difficulty level? Was he attacking in a coalition? I've yet to seen cases where the AI suicides you without some form of broad support or caveats like playing on Deity (where even two city civs are a spammy threat).

Perhaps they feel that you are treating them as a minor civ :P

It doesn't stop them coveting your lands...

It doesn't stop them coveting your Wonders...

It doesn't stop them from thinking you're a warmonger...

It doesn't stop them from desiring relations with the same CS are you have...

etc...

Give it away for does nothing, maybe a few turns of "We traded recently", but then, they might just attack you anyways.

As The Quasar said: It doesn't stop them...."insert whatever here"!

On Diety its like play and pray, war against one enemy is still playable but with two or more enemies its getting very hard, AI always attacking no mather what if they feel a bit stronger than you even with friendship pact. Hope G@K AI will get more IQ.

The OP needs to mention what level they are playing on!

And you don't just give away resources, you take them!

"We traded recently" just doesn't last long at all.
And doesn't cancel any of the negative modifiers.

A poster in another thread also reported that the Civ V AI appears to makes the decides to go to war three turns before it declares.

(He used extensive use of the time machine)

they would attack you even if you have liberated them, if they could build up their military. I always liberate conquered civs but they are still very hostile to me, eventually i have to finish them off.

As have been mentioned in many many threads now; The diplomacy in Civ 5 is completely broken.
Lets hope Firaxis fixes it asap.
