If you were running for President....

Would you continue to run for President if your wife were ill with cancer?

Good for Eran, Igloo and Elrohir for being about the only non-lefties I could find in this thread who aren't going to rot in hell.

I knew you were the gatekeeper to hell!

Anyway, batshit insane posters aside, I would keep running, for my [future] wife I'm sure wouldn't like to impede on me, and it would make her feel MUCH worse if I dropped out, than if I just continued. And hell, winning would cheer both of you up.

I can handle a lot, but speculating about when this poor woman is going to die, not even hiding that you don't give a crap except insofar as it affects the election and allows you to call John Edwards "heartless," is over the line. By about a mile.

Not discussing it does not mean the issue doesnt exist. Apparently you have repeatedly missed where I think the whole situation is a tragedy.

I doubt any of the people who posted such comments know someone who has or had cancer. And if you did, then you're definitely going to burn.

Actually, I have already stated that I had two close friends who within the last two years had family members die of cancer. They chose the option of taking leave of absences to deal with the issues surrounding a terminal ill family member. I endorse their decision. Why would that 'definitely' make me burn?

I dont think its up to you. And I hardly think discussing the issue is going to have them rot in hell. If fact, I think most of the non-lefties and lefties alike would applaud Edwards if he decided to withdraw in order to take care of his wife.

If you havent noticed, there are more than a few 'lefties' that have voted they would withdraw from the race to take care of their wife. Again, I think that is the right decision to make and applaud it.

And how would losing make you both feel?

I would disagree here. She commented to the media after her husband spoke about her cancer. It was the most "um"s and "uh"s I've ever heard someone say on television.

Do you really think someone's speech on their own cancer is going to be reflective of their speaking abilities?

The poll options reflect what I think the separate sides will think of this issue. So far I dont think I am far off the mark.
Consider me one of the numerous who posted here to say they won't vote in your poll.

Pretty bad, but it would regardless. Although, I'm sure in the long run, you'd feel better that you at least tried, and well, you would have more time to be with you wife.

Sigh. The entire point is that if he is busy campaigning for president, he wont be spending hardly any time with her at all. Thats a lot of stress that could be totally avoided.

Also he is currently polling at about 11% in third place...what do you think his odds of winning the primary and then the election are?

Numerous? I do believe after a quick scan of the thread you are the first to say this. Well, whatever makes you happy I guess.

And your wife got diagnosed with untreatable malignant bone cancer would you:

A. Withdraw from the race in order to spend time with your wife while dealing with her illness?

B. Continue to run for President.

Well, apparently, Edwards is choosing option B. http://today.reuters.com/news/artic...01357_RTRUKOC_0_US-EDWARDS.xml&src=rss&rpc=22

I dont know, call me silly, but if this were me, I would want to spend as much time with my wife as I could with as little stress on our lives possible. Why on earth would someone think winning the election more important than spending time with their terminally ill wife? I just couldnt see myself making Edwards decision that he has. What is your opinion?
Do you know the difference between treatable and curable? Maybe Edwards should follow Newt Gingrich's example and file for divorce.

Perhaps Nylan only want to look heroic in front of us?

@Nylan: Honesty is a virtue.

I am well aware of that and I speak the truth

I'm firm in my beliefs

....why would I want to show off to a bunch of random guys I've never met before on an internet forum anyways?

;)

I wouldn't think badly about John Edwards for continuing his presidential run when his wife is dying of cancer. I mean, it's sad but it is not like him not running for president would save her. I would however, admire John Edwards a lot more if he dropped out of the race because it would show that he isn't just a... politician.

I would stay with my wife until she is better. Politics are secondary, family is primary.

Why is it that when a question is posed here, and certain people give an answer that disagrees with the answer given by other posters, that the other posters sometimes just assume that they are lying?

What are you referring to Eran?

There's only 4 of us, as PP did vote after all. That makes for 4 out of about 35 people who posted in this thread. Sizeable enough, but I guess not as big as I rhetorically suggested.

Voted no, but I have no concept of whatever it is that seduces politicians so. Maybe if that were my thing, I would respond differently.

What if Mrs. Edwards lives another 25 years and he gives up his chance? There's that possibility. He won't win, though, IMO.

John Edwards stands no chance of becoming President in 2008.
