If you're having problems launching WorldBuilder...

i did find Steam's .exe listed in Processes but not Applications when I opened Task Manager but that was only once after exiting Steam when I got the WorldBuilder error msg. 2 other times I couldnt find it in Processes either. I use Win7 though so my process list will be somewhat different.
Both Steam and CiV were running in the processes (not apps). After a few stumbles, I'm now into the World Builder. Thank you for opening my eyes to that one :goodjob:

cool. glad you got into it. i havent upgraded to 8 yet so im glad it wasnt a windows version issue.

So I was able to bypass the error report, but that was only by very quickly running the commands listed before it decided it was in error.

if you havin World problems i feel bad for you, son.
i got 99 problems but a glitch aint one. HIT ME!

/sorry, couldnt resist
//the thread title "if you're having problems..." gets that song stuck in my head

The only way I can get the World Builder to open and run properly is:
1. Force exit from Steam.
2. Using a Desktop added World Builder Icon and using it to open it. This will cause Steam to restart and for some reason WB will work then. Note: It takes a lot longer to load than normal, but it does open on my end.
This way has worked for me after the Steam patch that broke access and still works after the Steam patch that was suppose to fix the problem, which for me didn't correct the problem.

I was able to get World Builder to work 1 time (using the fix in the OP). I successful modified and saved a map. I tried launching World Builder again, but received the following error: "The Civilization 5 exe has crashed and can no longer provide services like mod info".

I tried restarting my computer. I tried exiting Steam and closing all Steam processes, then manually starting World Building from the desktop short cut. I continually get the same error.

Why would it work 1 time and then no longer work?!

All I did is start worldbuilder, crashs, then ctrl+alt +del, start task manager, find the civilizationv.exe in Progress tag, end it! then start worldbuilder again~ solved!

None of these suggestions were working for me. I was getting something like an Out of Memory exception in ModDataComplete() trying to load the World Builder.

I deleted the folder \\My Documents\Firaxis ModBuddy then ran ModBuddy to recreate the folder. (If you've created any mods rename the folder instead of deleting it so you don't lose them.)

I also deleted all files in \\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\cache.

One of those fixed World Builder for me--unfortunately I don't know which.

Windows 7 64-bit.

New World Builder problem:

It is saying that I can't load maps made with the new version of the game .... the problem is that I was making a GnK only map (unticked the relative DLC/BNW in the opening menu). I have verified cache on the SDK and still the same message.

will there be a new update for WB? or did it update when BNW came out and it invalidate things for older versions of the game? any ideas on this yet?

edit: now with pics -- they were the same either loading through steam or through the .exe process from task manager shutdown.

Any solution from anyone to this latest issue with WB ?

Every launch leads to an immediate "Stopped Working Error".

We have a build up behind a new beta if you would like to see if it addresses your problem.

1. Right-click on the "Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK" link in Steam, and select "Properties".
2. Select the "Betas" tab
3. Enter the password "worldbuilder", and click "Verify".
4. If the password is accepted, then select "worldbuilder" from the pull-down list, and click "close".
5. Restart your steam client.

The new build should download. Start it up, and start World Builder. To verify that you have the correct version of World Builder, you should see yesterdays date (7/23) in the title bar when it launches.

Thanks much, and feedback is appreciated.

I've been looking for a solution for a while, tried all the workarounds. The beta works great though. Many thanks!

The World Builder hang problem has struck me again! I did upgrade to Win10 this summer but I was able to use World Builder once since that time. None of the old solutions I've used in the past have worked. Anyone have insights on how to fix this? (What is causing this hang anyway?):mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
