IGN Preview and Video (04/08/10)

Sounds pretty good. +1 for including the date in the title.

Not much new information, but it does sound like he's enjoyed the game. he also mentions that they still provide a lot of informationon what is going on with the interface, its just better organized.

Also, I don't know if this is new to everyone, but I haven't heard about it:

Within the Liberty line Collective Rule can be adopted, which gives an upfront food bonus, and linked to that is Republic, which gives a +1 bonus to production in every city

Legions are str 13 (along with road/fort building)
Incense is back
Barbarians have a unique name for the warrior- Brute
Ballistas are str 4, ranged attack 18. No idea about the regular catapult though
New diplomatic options: "pact of cooperation", "pact of secrecy"
This is definitely a new build: new and better icons in the social policy screen
Honor's other bonus is revealed: Notification whenever camps spawn in revealed territory
Tradition gives +1 food now
City state mission: Vienna tells you to kill barbs: +influence for each dead barb.

Didnt Greg say onetime that we he could play with up to 23 civs plus city states? This says 12 and 24 city states is the largest. Also this says you have to complete 5 social policies to build Utopia, isnt it 6?

I love some of the visuals going on: The improved policy icons are gorgeous, and Askia's background is amazingly cool.

It seems they have changed the Utopia Project from 6 policies to 5??

Tim, I was thinking maybe it depends on difficulty levels, or they changed it, or they got it wrong/

Yea, I noticed that. Either it's changed or it was a typo.
Also, I'm having trouble figuring out what is going on with certain tiles: All hills look like they give 2H, but there's a forested riverside grassland hill that gives out 1F/1H/1G. Floodplains look like they only give 2F/1G though.

This is a necessary step if you ever want to build better units like tanks and giant death robots

Giant Death Robots are now properly confirmed.

The rivers still look kind of "blah" but the rest of the terrain looks stunning.

Thanks for posting this. :goodjob:

Pearls are also a resource, Vienna has them.
The Chariot now seems to be named Chariot Archer. Couldn't see if they had a ranged attack or not.
Units gain XP for being damaged while defending against a ranged attack as well as for normal attacking and defending and for doing a ranged attack themselves.

Combat looks very good.

Does the Text say there are only 3 Map Types?

"Next up, a decision needs to be made about what kind of map to play on – one with separated continents, a Pangaea style map with a continent, or an archipelago style of map."

Observations from the Video:
Augustus is the "Consul" of Rome. I imagine this means there are civ-specific titles.

Grassland is 30 gold, forest 65.

At certain point the player gets the message "Rome bombarded by an enemy spearman" - does this mean Spears have a range attack, or is that always what it says when a city is attacked?

Pearls are a resource

The "Combat Odds" interface is different what was seen before. The modified strength is on the same scale as the base strength (i.e. base 13 strength with 15% flanking bonus shows as 14.95 strength) and the top line says "Approx DMG inflicted", which makes me think RND are in.

I'll post more later...

Consul is a Social Policy specific title I think. Bismarck also uses it at one point in the video.
