There's a very big possibility that this guy is gay. And I'm serious.

I don't remember where I read or saw this, and it is has been a LONG time since i did, but I swear remembering hearing that the minimum starting population for acceptable genetic diversity was 32.

I've seen estimates range from several hundred to several thousand. The problem is humans don't breed too much, so with every generation more genetic material is lost at a higher rate than with other mammals who have more children (the same problem is plaguing efforts to save the Panda, incidentally).

Each baby inherets 50% of genetic material from each parent and so with 2 kids you're gonna average 75% being passed on. Even assuming more kids you're still losing genetic information every generation and that's not even factoring in the fact that humans aren't particularly genetically diverse to begin with thanks to recent population bottlenecks. A few generations down the line it dwindles further and further, and with no hope of outside replenishment it just isn't gonna happen.

Agreed, I can carry the load (pun intended) myself. 10 People is not going to be genetically viable in the long term, but at least I would be somewhat of a creator for our short history.

You need at least 32 mating pairs of humans in order to re-establish the species, so essentially I just have to eliminate the competition for the next most important thing after the survival of the human species and that is sex (for pleasure).

CORRECTION: For some reason, I originally stated that one needed eight mating pairs (16 adults) in order to perpetuate a species with acceptable levels of genetic diversity. This was incorrect. After some research, the number of mating pairs was found to be between 16 - 32 (or 32 - 64 adults).

Studies have shown that offspring of mating first cousins can have nearly double the risk for genetic disorders. Offspring of mating second cousins have an increased risk of 1/3 the base rate. Offspring of third cousins have only a slightly higher risk (almost negligible) of genetic disorders. Fourth cousins have no more common genetic material than any two individuals picked at random and therefor, they're offspring have no increased risk of genetic disorder.

If a population were to start with thirty-two mating pairs, it could reach the fifth generation before (third) cousins would inevitably begin mating. Ideally, a population should start with at least sixty-four mating pairs so that the population would reach the sixth generation before (fourth) cousins would inevitably begin mating.

Is this math correct?
