Basically trance allows you to have super reflexes faster than anyone else. Not sure if you're familiar with Gundam any, but it's like being a coordinator or Newtype. It can be described as being aware of everything happening to you at a million frames a second. Some stories I wrote describing it. It has a more religious and indoctrination component than other things. I have found some "historical records-posts I made in EV" which i hope will allow you to better understand just what and how awesome Trance troopers can be.

Kruger and his team finished their morning prayer before going to the classroom. Doctor Zara, leader of the Ammar program reasoned the best results for the trance program would result in a re-affirming of the candidates’ history and culture. The brain re-connected with data and strengthened the connection in one’s faith. Zara believed that it was a side effect of the neural plasticity treatment. She wasn’t sure why, but it had proven positive.

To that end, she had arranged for Commandant Malek of the Central Training Academy to make appearances to deliver some history lessons to the troops. Sure it was information that they had already learned, but a refresher in why they were fighting certainly would strengthen their resolves. At least that’s what Zara was putting in her reports and what her results were showing. So the lessons would continue in addition to the rigorous training and testing performed by Zara’s staff.

As Kruger and his other Ammar sat down, he saw Commandant Malek looking over the notes of his lecture. As the class filed in and took their seats, he passed a salute to them, before starting the Simu. Mediated reality had been the best way for students to absorb and relive lessons in the simulated reality. Kruger could see Malek’s avatar standing in the middle of a dusty field as he began to talk.

“The way the foundation of the UAS is taught is that the Cemaat conducted a PR and political campaign across the world. This campaign lead to the creation of many progressive policies that the UAS Cemaat enacted. These policies fundamentally lead to the transformation of the world's view of Islam. While the politicians of the day enjoy the credit for these victories, no one really remembers the true cost. Many don't know the true story of the blood that had to be spilled to get us here. And that is my job to remind you what you are fighting for if you are to continue the fight for the future.

We all know that the UAS first established themselves in the UAE and Lebanon. These were just small stepping stones to a greater good. The political movement soon spread to Saudi Arabia and the ruling class resisted. Many had ties to ISIL or made money off the war and strife. Backed by western governments and their over financiers they would prove a thorn in the side of the movement. The same was true with Turkey, another bastion of western backed Islam with ties to ISIL. These two countries had kept keep the balance of power in the region and for that to change, action would have to be taken. The trade war between the Americans and Chinese gave us a chance to act.”

Malek stopped talking and the image changed to several dozen armed men preparing to raid a compound.

“This is when the first special operations strikes began against Saudi and Turk marked targets. Several special operation units, operated by highly paid PMCs carried out a number of high profile assassinations against strategic targets. Finance companies, military production, generals and even a few princes were taken out in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia. This destabilization backed by the West being forced to turn off its support lead to the masses finally getting the chance to rise up against their oppressors.”

The simulation turns to mass riots, labelled the Summer Revolutions with masses of civilians backed by former military storming several palaces.

“The Summer revolutions soon spread as the populace rose up, demanding change. Better rights, better jobs and a government that would do something to curb ISIL. The politicians would tell you that it was the people voting that caused the revolutions and subsequent mindset changes which brought Turkey and Saudi Arabia into the fold. This simply isn’t true. It was men and in some rare cases women who were pulling the trigger that kicked it all off.

Men and women who wanted a better state, a better world for their children. The world that we now live in. With the resources of Turkey and Saudi Arabia behind them, our forefathers were able to rally many minor principalities to our banner. We were able to heal the rift that divided us, be it religion, ethnicity, money. With Western backed weapons, the Islamic Civil War as some call began.

The next decade would see military operations designed to curb ISIL and hem it in. Surprising our strongest ally in this, was one of the most unlikely. Seeing that the UAS was headed on the path to prosperity, Israel joined in. Providing crucial intelligence and training to the growing UAS forces. IDF units participated in several strikes that curbed ISIL offensives. Independent financiers also supported UAS forces in some of the tribal regions. Unlike American diplomacy which had failed because of its foreign nature, the UAS shared a cultural link which brought many fractured tribes together.

Unified we were a forced to be reckoned with. Backed by 1st world weapons, a trained military and a worth wild mission and vision, those who had sat ideally back while the name of Islam was smeared rose up. The rise saw the vast majority of terrorist retreat back to the shrinking ISIL territories. Sleeper cells were routed out by “Tribal Intelligence” and those that didn’t get the hint were systematically taken out by UAS backed PMCs and Special Operators.”

The simulation then changes to an image of the UAS flag flying above the newly established capital in Beirut.

By 2060 the UAS was a force to be respected and admired. The successful strikes against ISIL, Al-Qaeda and their other groups had decapitated their ability to resist the change that was coming. Muslims around the world had rallied under the banner of the UAS, and with resources dedicated to the spreading of progressive, moderate Islamic policies, the UAS was finally able to cut off recruitment into their organizations. This was the true meaning of “winning their hearts and minds”.

Of course practical application of force was still a necessity. This was especially true with the creation of Al-Dawlah Al-Islamīyah. This composed the last holdout of the “old world”. The decision was made to not attempt the Western approach of violent intervention. The Primes decided that they would simply watch them and intervene strategically with special operations troops when necessary. The tide had turned and resources needed to be focused elsewhere to bring about true change. Thus why we operate PMCs and specialized strike forces to this day for the occassions when force is needed. By keeping up our image as the “less than violent” alternative, we have gained more ground than through centuries of fighting.

Of course, fighting is still a reality. There are always enemies out there who wish to do us harm. Aside from the major phyla there is the Al-Dawlah Al-Islamīyah backed group the Global Liberation Army. You know them as the GLA or the guys faces you routinely beat in.”

The image changes to the GLA flag and rebels training.

“They are lead by Prince Kassad. He was a former Saudi Sheik who escaped the uprising. Now he is hell bent on bringing us down through pin-prick operations. These guys are a minor nuisance but every now and then they pull off something amazing, like their snatch and grab of Dr. Farrah last year. Most of these operations end in disaster but a certain amount of them succeed. Soon you will be much better equipped to deal with these guys and their efforts. Analyst say that the attrition rate isn’t in their favor and that our strikes or their failed ones kill more operatives than they gain. It’s only a matter of time before they are extinct, we just have to have the means to usher them along.”

The Simulation changes to the new logo of the Ammar, a Scimitar imposed over a crescent moon.

“We are the protectors of Islam. Your faith in what we do will guide us onward. You are the future and you should never forget that!”

The simulation ends and Kruger and his comrades returned to reality. Kruger had heard this story before, back in OCS. This time though, it felt different. Something about him felt different. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but it made him feel more alive.

In the next room, Dr. Zara was monitoring the groups Exocortex feeds during the simulations. She could definitely see spikes in their receptors, especially when mentioning how special operators had changed the course of the war. It was an interesting result and not something totally unexpected. She would certainly keep this part of the program intact in the next iterations.

Spoiler After-Action Report Abstergo Industries Incident :

Al-Ammar Field Commander

My unit was deployed to assist in the defense of the Abstergo Industries facility located in Southern France. We were called upon to assist the French Foreign Legion who were under attack by unknown hostiles. We hotdropped into the area via dropship and immediately began to engage the enemy forces. Before deploying my men and I entered Trance mode and our Exos began to record the events and our vitals as the counterattack unfolded.

When we touched down, we were informed by the FFL that their nioome security had been breached and their attackers had taken down one of their teams by biofeedback. We immediately disconnected from the node and went personal. Despite not having backup from the VEDA server, we were able to move quickly into the compound and ascertain the locations of our assailants. All of this was perceived by my team as happening after the fact, almost in slow motion. My men reported that they would see a hostile and before even processing the though to engage, their lasguns were already on target firing away at the hostile.

We counted 15 enemies in the compound once we started to engage, according to the mission timer, only 2.5 minutes passed by since we engaged them and only 3 remained active once the shooting started. These three were only captured by Lt. Ali moved in close to them and dispatched all three with melee based attacks single handily. He can't say for sure that he remembers thinking they he must capture these guys alive, but he did. My strike recorded no injuries or return fire from the incident. Talking with the FFL after the incident reveal that we "move through the air like humming birds, swiftly and gracefully".

Upon reviewing the footage from their combat cams and our own, I believe that this assessment would be correct. The full link between our suits, exos and reflexes were off the charts. Comparing this to previous combat data shows a full 1 second increase over previous reaction times. In the area of combat, that makes all the difference. The experience itself is hard to describe and like I started earlier in the report, it's like being in slow motion watching a FPS video. Completely unreal. We will continue to gather data and report on the experiences we have in trance as our skills progress.

I have reviewed the footage from Commander Kruger's action in France. As I predicted the full link between their armors and Exo's turned out much better than hoped. Their processors operated at 45% above their standard limits, representing the increased speed while in trance mode. Once the subjects removed "conscious thought" they acted on a reflex level only seen in advanced military drones. This of course makes them just as effective in that regard, however because they still retain their human capacity for thought and improvisation, they are all around better. I've run the simulation again using ED-205 models and they scored 15 points less than the Al-Ammar. The important difference is that 1 scientists was killed and none of the hostiles were captured each time I ran the scenario. This helps validate my underlying theory that human soldiers are better than machines. Hopefully the board will follow through with my suggestion to get the trance pilots program back on track. The Disciples have balanced us out in ground power, perhaps the Prophets will do the same in the air.

Spoiler Al-Ammar: Dead-Zone :

“Captain laser defense net is down! I can’t raise Alpha and Bravo squads! I think they are all dead!” shouted Lt. Chao as he scrambled back into the command center, bleeding from a head wound.

“Where the hell is our support?!” screamed Captain Hyo as he picked up his laser rifle and headed towards the barricade.

Looking outside, he could tell that his situation was dire. GLA assets had attacked his outpost. Normally a GLA attacks were small and isolated, but since the heat had picked up back home, they had moved their operations to the Far East. Now smaller outposts like Hyo’s were under near constant assault. Undermanned and undertrained UAS Far East military command was an easy target. With high levels of flooding damaging infrastructure and bases they were almost too easy to take down with the right force. In this case, the GLA troopers had the right force to do the job.

Looking through his HUD, Hyo did a head count, the last of his men, about a dozen or so in total manned the last barricade to the command center. According to his sensor net, what was left of it anyway, the main GLA force numbered about 100 men plus drone support. Hyo’s calls for help had apparently fallen on death ears back home, not that any of the other outposts would have much to send as they were probably up to their necks in GLA as well.

In the distance Hyo could hear the enemy preparing for their final attack. “Gentlemen, it has been an honor and a pleasure serving with you. Prepare to defend yourselves!” Hyo looked up to see a pair of Vtols on his HUD spinning around to strafe his position as the dozens of other red dots moved on his position. He exhaled and aimed his rifle, preparing to take as many of the enemy troops with him as he could. Just as he was about to open fire on them, he saw both of the Vtols explode and go crashing into the countryside. More laser streaks sliced into the enemy position, marking off more targets with deadly precision.

“Prior 1, this is Prophet, hold fire and position. Friendly forces inbound, ETA 15 seconds” came a female voice over the radio as the tell-tell signs of a fighter jets streaked by overhead.

“Prophet to Disciple, skies are clear, good for drop”

As Hyo and his men tried to figure out what was happening, and how god had saved them, 12 power armors descended from a fast moving dropship which now hovered over them, pumping out high energy lasers from its turrets as they did. As the Exos cleared the dropship, Hyo could see the Scimitar emblazoned on the side of the armor, it was the logo of the Al-Ammar.

“Holy , command sent you guys out here? We must be in deep !” commented Hyo as he looked up to the armor standing in front of him.

“Yeah, the whole sector is on fire and were the firemen” commented Kruger as he men lined up on him.

“Yeah I get that, but there are like 100 guys out there. You’re outnumbered like 10 to 1” stated Hyo in disbelief that they would only send a squad of guys to help him.

“Good, then it will be a fair fight” stated Kruger confidently as he turned and jetted off into the enemy formation followed by his men.

Hyo looked on as the 12 green dots moved through the enemy formation, dropping 6 or 7 dots in a single sweep. Screams of the enemy reached his ears as the Trance commandos moved through their lines like winds through a wheat field. Explosions, laser flashes, missile streaks and lots of screams went through the base for the next 5 minutes, then silence.

“Command, this is Disciple 1, Area Secured. Send in retrieval” heard Hyo over the radio. He saw Kruger’s armor come back through the smoke, completely un-damaged by the combat that had just taken place.

“Your base is yours again, reinforcements will be here within the hour. Stay frosty Captain” stated Kruger, patting Hyo on the shoulder with his armored fist before disappearing up the Rho lift into the returning dropship.

Hyo couldn’t speak. Floored by the events he had just witnessed.

"Well, we meet all the main points except for number 7." replied Shi Plimsoul, scientist 9th lvl and head of the Yankee Suns' Science corps. "They must not understand that most humans from earth had genetic changes. You can plainly see it in our extended lifespans. Living 120 years is not natural in origin."

"Longer lifespans?" The Emperor stopped to pick a plum from one of the hundreds the tree held. "I don't see that as a problem."

"No but there is much more then that." continued Shi Plimsoul. "Our faster healing, higher stamina and lack of visual and auditory defects is a outcome of our manipulated DNA."

"Again that could be explained away as a health concern." Taking a small knife from his boot the Emperor cut a slice from the plum and offered it to his chief scientist. "Please continue."

"It shows in our eye color." said Shi Sho taking the piece of plum. "Our violet eyes. This was rare genetic mutation known as Alexandria's Genesis before the forefather's experiments. It is now the dominate gene, 98.4% of the Yankee Suns have violet eyes."

"Once again, I see no problem." laughed the Emperor amused at the stupid joke he made. "Its a legacy from our forefathers."

"Yes, but the problems will come as we learn more of the lost Terran tech." said Shi Sho as the rain began falling. "We will need genetic manipulation if we are to return to claim Terra."

"We will see, my friend." The Emperor smiled and handed another slice of plum to the scientist. "We will see."

We can agree to this if we both were met as equals, thus being allowed to settle a colony on your solar system.

Of course, in order for this finer part of our discussion to become a realisation, we will have to exchange planetary and logicistic informations about our solar systems so that:
a) our supply routes are not delayed by the arrival of our respective ships and
b) so that we can create new colonies on celestial bodies within the respective solar system of each other without having the need to waste sensors.

More Questions:

Space units can be built and used on the same turn correct? I notice that there was mention of space units being built in the update, but I'm also guessing that the players were able to use them.

For the sensor tech, you only need to boost a planet reading to level 2 sensors if you need to overcome stealth, so you essentially only need 1 sensor to get the necessary information(Class and resources) from a non-stealth system correct?

Can cargo routes be made for multiple systems? IE I have 1 cargo transport but I need to move within my own system AND to another system. Would I need 1 cargo transport per system or anything under the 10x rule is fine? Or does the 10x rule not apply to cargo as I saw somewhere that cargo transport was unlimited?

Are there any differences(outside of efficiency) for using different mining types? There isn't much of a cost difference between basic and helium mining but I would imagine that the latter would deplete a planet faster.

Power Systems Update
Report for the eyes of the Primes Only

The population problem still continues to be troubling. Commander La Forge has stated that the damage to the capacitor systems were much greater than previously anticipated. While not fatal due to the clean operating masses of the ZPM technology, the damage to the crystal is substantial. By our estimations, the crystal and main power systems will fail in just under 20 Terran months. This is far far less time than we were promised before the entire drive system dies.

Primary fusion reactors, for whatever reason, don't provide enough power to the system to compensate for the energy bleed. Repair work is lost as the archives seem to be corrupted in some way. Expert analysis by the Jaeger division reveals that on some level their may have been computer sabotage. The running theory is something about sub-consciousness of millions of people in Cyrosleep manifesting itself into a Bio-Matrix. This allowed corrupt E-life into the system which breached parts of the core drives. The Jaegers think that there were pathways left open for such an invasion to happen, which presents itself with its own mysteries. It could also explain the damage to the ZPM as systems in that section appear to have been overloading causing overloads which cracked the crystals.Whoever or whatever did this could still be lurking in the system and the Jaegers are working to make sure none of the other systems are corrupted.

From what our analysis shows right now, we can still reanimate colonist. Our estimates puts our total need at about 2100 Habitation units needed. Plans are in place to put us at about half that number, but that would make the end of the easy colonization efforts. If we can't find another M-Class world, we will have to look into other technologies to help us build the other 1000 or so Habitation Units needed. It's a tall order in such a short time period. I just hope that the science division finds something in the archives that can help accelerate the process.
