Why do you need writing so early? A library would cost more than Oracle with marble, and you can't open borders with anyone, so sailing, monarchy, or even Ag->AH would be better. Otherwise, your new plan gets my vote. I forgot you get cheap granaries so I agree that you should tech pottery and chop a granary once you have 2 workers and 2 workboats, but don't invest in a lighthouse until you are ready to whip it into GLH.

I thought I wanted my second city to get me a great scientist as soon as I had a third (maybe fourth) city up, but I guess with the tech rate being so fast I probably have time to oracle MC and tech monarchy first.
