Immortal Challenge 8: Songhai, Pangaea

@msawchuk
Spoiler :

Did you do anything to Ramk to slow him down? In my game he was a total runaway, he ate up half of the mainland, allied all of the CS and attacked me in 250sh. I couldn't really push back because he had a massive horde of bombers and unending supplies of marines, so I only captured a city of his and killed two his CS's. Didn't help, he still got 14 votes on 292. If not for that, I would have launched 300-310, probably too late because he had the entire tech tree cleared, too.
Runaway Ramk was actually the reason I believed this map to be interesting, would be great to see how others might deal with him. I couldn't because I made too many mistakes and spent too many turns conquering Izzy.
In my game Ramk was a problem, but not as much as in yours. The only thing that I did to slow him down was take a city, but that was around t250. He probably wouldn't have won until about t310-320 in my game. It is probably just random things that helped him in your game, like when he chooses to attack and expand.

Had a bit of a goofy game. Turn 313 domination win.

Spoiler :
I was bribing wars constantly and on the offense most of the game, so there weren't many friends for RA's. Maria became a bit of a runaway since I got into a slug fest with Ramk. He had some nasty terrain to get through, but I collected a stack of wonders.

Maria had about 25 bombers/great war bombers when I went after her so I took some heavy losses, but I had stealth bombers at the time and carved a fairly quick path for her capitol.

Should have planned the offensive against Ramk better to save some turns, or perhaps gone for science. I mostly went after him because he was looking dangerous and Maria was growing big, so I wanted a stepping stone to go after her.

Lost T 292

Spoiler :
Siam won the UN vote…. Now that does not happen often. Was set up for T 310ish science victory. Siam was total runaway in this game, wonder spammed like hell. Missed out on a few critical ones (Pisa, Porcelain Tower,…) which would have probably given the victory. Very intense game, I rarely end up checking every turn the victory progress to see where we stand in terms of votes. Aztecs coupes 3 allies of Austria in the last 2 turns, lol, Monty should have used those spies on on Siam. Siam won by 2 votes. Made a desperate attempt (coup'ing at 21 resp. 28% chance, both spies died)

Played quite different from usual, went wide, was an interesting experience, but i lack routine in going wide. Should have build NC via GE, seems to be the best option.

Thank you for the map, see you in the next games. GOTM 63, Ottomans IC (forget that one) and of course, your Irocois challenge.

Will go on holidays, so don't know about connectivity for the next 3 weeks

Teadrinker, I've picked this map specifically because there's runaway Ramk :). I've lost it myself, to t292 diplo Rammy. Budweiser has posted the new ninth IC recently, that one is much more manageable.

This is my 3rd game on Immortal. I played 130 turns:

Spoiler :

I opened Liberty, got 3 cities > NC > 1 more city > attacked Spain.
I beelined Chivalry, because I wanted to use the UU against Spain. I got Education around turn 128. I took 2 of Spain's cities by turn 129 (now she only has 1 city).

I still haven't met 1 of the other civs (my scouting is really bad :( ). I'm second in tech, behind the unmet civ (I think the early NC + GS helped me). I messed my social policy timing a lot - I sill haven't entered the Renaissance and I got 2 policies that I put into Commerce.

From now, I plan to settle some cities because there is a lot of space between me and Siam. I will attack Siam or the Celts after I get crossbows but it will be a lot harder than taking Spain because they both have more cities/military.

edit: Finished t314 science victory.
