Comments on games:

@Pigswill:
Your army is impressive of course. I guess your idea was to conquer barb cities rather that founding new ones. But only one worker - you should whip one immediately rather than producing libraries. We can see where iron is - that's nice. Maybe original location of the capital was not so bad afterall. Stone still unimproved? We can see unit with 10 exp - that's nice. Religion is also nice. However - your weakness is not lack of Mids, but weak overall population. In the time of mine&Snaaty's open games, we received plenty 1AD saves and the standard is 20 population points at least.

@Cabert:
Another strategy comparing to Pigswill's save. Good fogbusting. More workers&more improvements. But still the same f.e. producing library in 1 pop city. Confucianism - that's nice. And the same general objection as in Pigswill's game - weak overall popoulation.

@Cam_H:
Solid research and outstanding production. First thing that made me curious - farming plains? Farmed plains are almost nothing - just 1 hammer&1 commerce for 1 pop point. And remember - that bigger cities mean bigger maintanance&upkeep. I'd rather leave plains unimproved and wait till Industrial age or cottage them. Only 4 cities - we can observe that there are built improvements for the future, but ... Would not it be better to chop settlers instead? Confucianism - that's nice. Good fogbusting. Very strong position.

@Stuge:
Outstanding both production and research. No fogbusting? Music almost in - that's nice. Avoided growth in 3 cities and all 3 reached happiness cap. Do you know what that means? You should: a) turn off avoid growth b) click next turn c) switch to settlers d) click next turn e) whip settlers losing 3 pop points in every city. 3 settlers in 3 turns. Does it not sound attractive to you? Very strong game - definitely improved comparing to the previous start.

@Remco:
Outstanding research and very strong production. Metal casting in - not my favourite tech with these conditions, but it opens Collosus. Good fogbusting. I guess, you wish to whip aqueduct in Pasargadae, but I would whip settler there. I am not sure if chopping in Ecbatana is the best idea - this city suffers low production - in my game I am chopping Moai Statue, but in your game, you lack of Sailing. And similar progress towards Collosus - you know Metal Casting. I will have more hammers in pretender to Collosus, after finishing Moai Statue there. Strong position.

@Giaur:
I am the only one with almost 6 cities (5 + 1 settler), but Pasargadae in my version loses iron. Stronger Capital (river connection). I have more developed SE, but cottage economy is weak. Strong position, but those 2 turns towards Metal Casting make me ... "I am not so sure".

Nice suggestion, I'll be using that, thanks. :cool:

I tend to use avoid growth in established cities simply because I don't like the visual of the smoking cities. A bad habit, especially when I forget those on when the happy cap grows... :rolleyes:

strange, I do the exact opposite :
- I never (never!) use the avoid growth button
- I grow population over the happiness cap to whip large items. I use this to whip all necessary universities on the second turn after edu is in, for example.

The voting is getting exciting... 1 more set of votes to be counted and it's a very close race at this point!

Find it difficult to comment on games. Most observations have already been made. I'm not quite sure why HG was so popular.

I haven't been playing at all well, which is even more embarassing as I started the thread. Pyramids was a good idea because of the lack of happy and I totally missed it at the time. I also miscalculated barb settlement. Still I hopefully can improve, there's a lot of good games on both threads to learn from.

don't be embarassed!
I found my game so miserable I started several emperor level vanilla games and got my rear kicked. Not badly (1 space loss, 1 badly "out teched" retirement), but still nowhere near a victory.
I guess I'll play next round with the "winner".

Waiting for nobody now - they were all in this morning!

It was a really close round there. Several games were contendors.

But the winner is Cam_H! Congratulations!

Congrats for Cam!

I'll be playing home this round, just for change. Do we know the target turn yet?

I was thinking that we play 45 turns taking us up to T160, then play a 40 turn set next round to bring us up to T200.

A more blow-by-blow account is on the next page.

(Play to 1000AD).

Spoiler :
"If you chase two rabbits, you will lose them both."
With the last round I was reasonably determined to make headway towards Civil Service - this round there were several technology paths worth pursuing, but I felt as though I got a bit lost between two. Two objectives were achieved, while I had the occasional tiny misfortune - missed a couple of handy WoWs, had a 'slave revolt' event in Persepolis, and I've got a roaming Barbarian where I don't have troops but have a Settler all ready to move in. All up; a builder's round.

I voted for Cam's game, but at a closer look, I am not sure if I did right. Both Cam's and Stuge's saves are very close. I was attracted by religion and I like mixed GP's, but that nasty hill barb city makes me "Aaaaaaaaaaaa". Stuge game gives IronWorking and Swords are better in knocking down barb cities. Now I do not know if I won't play home again. Forgive me Stuge and no offense to Cam, Remconius and the others :).

edited ...
btw. Good luck to all

And I am not experienced in quests, so the question and the request. Could you share your experience (knowledge) about the quests f.e. quest that demands building 7 libraries. What's the reward? Or quest that demands collecting 8 chariots.

I was quested once to get copper that was inside of Brennus borders. Of course I did it not in a peaceful way, but I managed. And the reward was rather disapointing: I got 4 free maces, while my best troops were rifles or infantry.

I am easily offended - but if you wish to play 'home' again - it's understandable. ;) I liked your game last round.

I'm not au fait with the quests myself other than a very few (usually if you have the Wonder in question e.g. Statue of Zeus for Colosseum quest, Taj Mahal for somethingorother quest, then you get the option of a free Golden Age). I've really not played BtS all that often :undecide:.
