Imperialism 3 - Now with 100% more Lua!

I hear you, @Civinator, the player could also gain the tech, and build the infrastructure.
Having big ports does bring news of what other the big port are buying and selling.

That said, I will give it some thought...And see if this is doable without undue hassle.
Cheers for the pointing out, I appreciate it.

@Civinator

You'll be glad to hear the change was pretty easy to carry out, with some edits to Rules, the Scn file and a Lua file.
But you'll have to restart the scenario if you wish to take advantage of the trade menu as Russia, whom I assume you were playing.

Updated scenario files below, usual installation policy applies...

Thank you Curt, I think this improves the complete scenario and that was why I pointed to it - and in that old test game I played Germany. I had, if I remember well, 16 mfg goods units and my first action was to look where to send them to.

Good show, dude.

I'm weighing up which empire for the next playthrough...Perhaps Glorious Japan.

Curt, I started the new version and noticed, that the fixes in the techtree and for the buildings coming with both switched techs were not be done:

Tech International Trade New Download:

The same of course is true for the other switched tech. Is this intended now?

Dang! I overlooked those...Thanks for catching it!

Quick fix here:

Thanks Curt. I test it when the installation of my new printer is finished.

Just a few in cheat mode

It seems, now the changes in the techtree are fixed. Sorry, that I have some bad news again, when trying to start a game with the new files as Germany (as I am now used to this setting), even before doing anything myself in the game: Germany has two capitals! One in Stockholm and one in Berlin.

These are intentional. Germany and some other empires are hegemonies of nations. So consider these regional capitals.

I dunno lols,
Is it maybe possible to reduce that terrain penalty for AI?

Doing a playtest right now. The AI rolls on just fine. Armies died in their thousands in the 1800s, killed by disease, not bullets.

There are barb units that are immune. Just play at Marshal or higher. The AI will look after itself at that level. :)

Hi Curt,

I installed a new instance of ToT on my computer for ToTPP version 0.16 and re-installed the most up-to-date Imp3 v5 files on it (including the new difficulty levels).

I started a new game yesterday, and hesitated at first whether if I should replay as Russia but in the end selected to play as France instead. If Russia was the more backward economically and scientifically, it was also the most homogenous and expansive empire and though it might not have had the most advanced weapons I ultimately found that its sheer size allowed it to produce units on a large scale. As Stalin is reported to have said: “Quantity has a quality of its own”.

France has a different challenge where though it’s more advanced than the former it is the smallest empire of all the nations. Many of its cities are spread out in small groups across the map making it much more difficult to project power locally except in Metropolitan France itself.

As such, I’ve already reached August 1873, and have gone on to conquer all of Italy and Sicily along with Barcelona and Bilboa from the Independents. I’ve equally liberated Amsterdam and Frankfurt from the Kaiser.

Economically, the challenge starts out almost as great as that of Russia but this time I converted as many citizens to taxmen much earlier. Delivering my Mfg Goods to America and a few to Britain along with my conquest have allowed me to maintain a substantial treasury even though I might have been operating at a minus 50 gold deficit per turn. But this has been alleviated by the fact that I just switched to Democracy a few turns back and now have a surplus of 250 gold per turn.

Scientifically, I started at one tech by 188 turns and have progressively improved that rate till I’m now researching one advance per 44 turns now that I’ve adopted Democracy. As I was more advanced, I was able to trade at least 3 or 4 techs and buy 2 others to the point where I now possess 37 technologies.

Otherwise, on a side note I just wanted to report the following:
  • I believe you may have forgotten to include the describe.txt file in version 5.
  • This time around, I did have issues at the beginning with sprites misbehaving. I noticed that perhaps close to half the units in the @advance_units ‘G’ section didn’t have the “override .SPR file for this unit” flag on.
I’ve since updated all the units in this section and the sprite issue has disappeared (may I recommend you do the same?).

11011110, 00000000, 0, 0000000000000000,0000000000000000,0000000000000000, 10000000 ; Labourers

The latest terrain changes look interesting. Are you prepared to send us a copy so we may test them out?

Hmmm - The sprite thing is damned annoying. Nothing in that section has been changed since your last playthrough. Naturally, I have no problems at all here.
The fact that you re-installed ToT might have something to do with the issue? Maybe check the animation SPR files in "original" folder?

Yeah, I know perfectly well about the Cosmic settings. When I add the spr over-ride on section G, it turns back the units to non-tribe colour versions.
I'd recommend changing it to whatever works on your system. My own installation and scenario works fine...So I have nothing to change.

I attached a quick copy of Describe.txt, and the new terrain files for you to try...Cheers for catching the missing file!

A look at the terrain update...It's my little Easter present for Imperialism testers. DL in the post previous to this one. :)
