The spots around planets are indeed orbital guns. Fleets, likewise, have a more "carrier"-esque design.

Mathalis' War

The unnamed NPC(let's just call it Bob) finds itself as a victim of Mathlian aggression.

The NPC is smart, assembling orbital guns around all its home worlds to give it a defensive bonus.

An imposing fleet of 7 ships is assembled. Mathalis sends 16 against them, however!

Bob opts not to retaliate, so as to avoid opening weaknesses.

I'm working on the next update now, and consolidating various NPCs to reduce management costs(you know, in college now, so I need to manage my time wisely!).

As such, I am curious how players stand on this. Theoretically, I could just scrap this and MAYBE convert your country into currency that can be used in whatever game I start next, to reward the successful. How I'd do this, I have no idea. Probably just go by number of provinces/technologies/roleplay(Thorvald, for example, would be low in provinces but very high in roleplay given his ingenuity with several races).

It's just this game sadly didn't have the luster I thought it would.

Well as much as it pains me to say this, the answer is obvious: updates. This game was slow from the start, and if college is gonna drain you even further, I would suggest pulling the plug.

I do, however, like this game's premise, and if you ever consider a reboot, I have a few ideas for overhauled mechanics.

That said, as long as it's running I'll keep playing along.

There also was a lack of roleplay for the most part, though that it is in part because so much of the game was spent in the expansion phase.

Well, I already had some ideas for simplification. Dozens of NPCs aren't always a recipe for tiresome work, provided the right framework is in place.

I think after this turn, NPCs will collect x% of the top NPC's income. Trade agreements will be 50% of the trade value, so everyone wins equally.

I will also simplify civics instead to give 30 zones per level, with your base support being 30, so Civics maxed means you can control 150 zones across the galaxy without penalty. This allows traditional imperialism - outposts, rather than omnomnom gobble up everything in sight - and also removes a penalty for players with less profitable zones in their locale.

Though for me it's also a pain to manage because of the setting, oddly enough. In Earth-based IOTs, it's always easy for me to manage NPCs because, being geographically inclined, I know where every single country is.

well, to be blunt, earth, or sort of earth based games are more fun. this game is also fun, but it sounds too large of a game to manage yourself.

The referendum had low turnout, but it does sound like this will be coming to an end. My deepest apologies.

However, so our efforts have not been entirely for naught, I would like to convert the player countries in this into some sort of bonus for whatever my next game is. I'm not sure what the rate is, or how I'd do so without antagonising individuals who didn't play this one. A delicate balance indeed...

Again?

I guess I could eather take up the reigns of creating a new space based IOT, or just fire up a new world in Minecraft to generate a totally random world for IOT that's not based on earth.

Going with the 40k theme discussed earlier, maybe we can do a post-Imperial IOT where the Emperor perishes and the Imperium collapses. Or perhaps something Great Crusade based, too.

The post Imperium collapsing or the era after the dark age of technology (A good way for us to play with the history of W40k making it an alternate history) would sound good.
