Improvement bombing

I was wondering about the effectiveness of bombing another civ's improvements. Is it worth the time it takes to bomb away the roads that connect a civ's capital to the rest of it before moving on? Since these bombing often fail, it seems like it's a better use of air power and artillery to go straight for the cities themselves (although I do like the *idea* of cutting a civ off from itself). In any case, I was hoping for thoughts and tips on this question,

Hi everybody...

Usually I'll only go for strategic resources and sometimes luxuries. That is unless I know I'm not gonna be taking over the territory. Why destroy the countryside when soon you will control it. Then you have to rebuild it all.

But depending on the size of the city, how many defenders there are, and what units you are attacking with and the AI is using to defend bombarding cities is a good idea. I never did for a long time but I've come around. Nothing like bombarding the hell outta a size 18 city and redlining all the infantry inside and then taking it with my outdated cavalry.

I find it incredibly useful to cut a city off from the rest of the civ and its own stratigic resources. I usually play an Industrious civ so i dont mind rebuiling the roads because it goes so fast for me especially when im in a Democracy.
