In Defense of a Pirate

Oh, I'm not arguing that their work does not deserve recompense. I'm just saying that the cries of the industry, like they are suffering a monstrous injustice, barely hide the fact that this is a balancing factor, that will force them down from a pedestal.

I have a few ideas of what is the balance to be found, but telling them now would be an undue excercize of futurology. Whatever is the new paradigm, I just hope it's better than the old one - And I have every reason to think it will. Modern technology is forcing the law makers in the world to review their old concepts in just about every aspect of legislation. I'm sure that eventually a new paradigm of property rights will nail down this particular matter.

Regards :).

Well, the new paradigm has already forced the industry to sell by the song, where in the past, you basically had to buy 10-15 songs at once, so that is a start.

I'm hoping that it changes the way that artists are signed, and contracts are made...with more emphasis on digital sales/merch sales/ticket sales...and less on their ability to move physical CD units. The way the talent recruitment process is set up, you don't get anything...(tour support, promotion..squat), unless you can move CDs.

Well, my defense would be that there's no way I'd spend money on CDs no matter what, so they lose nothing.

Of course, my real defense is that I won't get caught.
