In defense of the Giant Death Robot

Wait, really? Every time you attack you take 1 dmg in this game? How is that remotely realistic when it's bombers versus pikemen?

The idea is that, no matter what, a military unit loses 10% of their strength no matter what. Even if it's simply bombers bombing a medieval fort garrisoning pikemen. Why? Because things making sense would be silly.

You don't need GDRs for any reason except for kicks. I don't think they change the game in any way. Stealth bombers with pikemen are far better. Nukes are a better use of uranium, even if you don't plan on using them. By the time you research fusion, it doesn't matter who you piss off because every already hates you, and the game is already over.

Personally I like me some GDRs ;-) They come in handy when you are playing "catchup" higher level games. You can gain a foothold using Stealth Bombers but when the AI has accumulated 300+ units on its continent you can't always destroy everything that comes cruising in to take the city back.

Plus I once had GDRs spawn as part of a "revolt". I needed those GDRs to take out the rebel GDRs (I think there were 5 or so... I was quite shocked). ;-)

Practical and strategic considerations aside, they are just plain fun IMHO. Definitely need more "future" units in the stock games, though.
