OK, bear with me here...

Many moons ago I was given a pirate version of Civ3. I liked the game, so naturally I then went and paid for a proper version through an online shop, where I was able to download the full version of Civ3. I have since purchased the Conquests X-pack, from a shop, so have the CD for that one...

Now, here's my problem - I was recently forced to perform a total HD format due to a virus epidemic that my copmuter was afflicted with. I backed up everything that I needed onto CD and wiped the HD...

Now that I've reinstalled everything, I can't find any record of where I downloaded Civ3 from, and thus can't contact them for a duplicate version. Therefore, as I have already paid for a version of the game, I decided that it didn't matter really whether I used the version that I paid for or the (pirate) version I was given?

My problem now is that the version of Civ3 that I have doesn't have the .mp3 files included with it, and when I install the Conquests pack, it crashes because they are missing...

What I am seeking is either someway that I can re-download them, or alternatively a list of the music files so that I can atleast make the game think they are there?

I know the rules on piracy here, but stress the point that I HAVE already paid for the game, both the original and the X-pack, and it's not my fault that I was the victim of a lowlife virus :( Neither is it my fault that I can't remember where I bought the game as it was years ago!

Please take pitty on my situation and help! :goodjob:

We cannot help you download files pertaining to CivIII, but you can just include any mp3 files in the music directory for CivIII, and name them what the CivIII default ones were.

Next time, retain a (paper) receipt of your on-line purchase and make sufficient backups of things you purchase. Proper backups are the key to trouble free computer usage and low blood pressure.

And no, don't bother asking me to provide these files.

Well thankyou for helping! :) Appreciate the fact that someone here was decent enough to help when most of the rest were too far up their anti-piracy a:nuke::nuke::nuke:s to lend a hand... For the record, I have now found the site where I dowloaded the game, and have now re-downloaded it again with a nice new licence agreement :goodjob: . Don't be so quick to judge next time maybe?

We weren't. Regardless of how you may feel about it, this discussion bordered on piracy.

We (CFC) have a good relationship with Firaxis and Atari. Part of it is due to the fact that we don't support piracy here. You may not like Firaxis, may not like Atari. That point is moot. Rather, they both wrote and published the game, and deserve compensation for it. Piracy denies them that compensation. Asking for music files is considerred piracy here.

Ginger_Ale wasn't being quick to judge. Never did anyone suggest you pirated the game.

Perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to defend. ;)

I Didn T Find These Audio Files Anywhere Please Help Me To Find, I Can T Play The Game :(

Question... Is there a way to make a backup copy of Civ? Over the past 3 1/2 years I've purchased vanilla and the Conquests expansion (1 copy of each), and 5 copies of CivIII Complete. (scratched 2, gave 1 to my grandson, still use 4th copy and bought a 5th extra in case I scratch the 4th. :D ).

I bought all of them from Amazon, and I don't think Amazon would replace them if I scratched them a year after purchase. It would be great to know how to make a backup duplicate. Or is that illegal? I seem to be very hard on game CDs, even tho it's the only computer game I play. :(

Unfortunately, legal backups of Civ (and may other games) is only possible using piracy-type tools. :(

(In the USA, and most other countries, you have the legal right to make a "backup" copy of all your software. Unfortunately, because of the constant cat-and-mouse game played by producers and pirates (actually it is more like the old M.A.D. nuclear scenarios), it is nearly impossible to make your legal backup, given all the "copy-protection" crap used.)

Thanks, Padma! I guess that was the answer I was looking for...even though it's not the answer I'd prefer. I'll just have to be more careful with my game disks (or hope that Amazon keeps them in stock for many years). ;)

I am very sorry for bumping an old thread but I am having a similar problem. The file on my Conquests cd, menu1.mp3, is corrupt or something, so I am unable to install Civ 3. I read what everyone said about putting in a new file and changing the name but I am unable to find where the music files are on the conquests cd. Could someone please give me directions on how to find this folder. Thanks!

If it helps, the Conquests cd is disc 3 of the Civilization 3 Complete edition.

Brilliant....now would that help me if a file called F:\Sounds\Menu\Menu1 was broken??
