In the Pale Moonlight - A Silent Hunter III AAR

you plan to give up leadership of Rome to drive around a U-boat?

I've heard of "my kingdom for a horse" but a little over the top isn't it?

A U-Boat! A U-Boat! My Empire for a a U-Boat!!

In the Pale Moonlight - A Silent Hunter III AAR
PART TWENTY-TWO

Captain’s Personal Logs
23rd October 1940

As expected, I return to Lorient to find my departure has been delayed by three days. Nonconformist has equipped us with new engine batteries - type AFA 27 MAK 800’s - he has informed me that they will recharge a lot faster than our old engines which, quite frankly, isn’t that much of a miracle after seeing how slowly the last engine recharged itself.

Still, three days isn’t that long, and I had more time to check over the new crewmembers, which include a Chief Mechanic at last. My Second Officer will be overjoyed not having to be in charge of the repair jobs anymore. I think I’ll assign him to night watch to make up for it.

Patrol Four, with designated patrol zone marked

Our next patrol takes us south to zone CF49. Apparently Command hasn’t realised how adept U-45 is at fighting the British near Ireland, and are more determined to bring us as close to Gibraltar as possible. Still, intelligence believes that a British convoy runs near the region to and from Africa, and probably want us hunt down ships to aid the Italians fighting there.

It is becoming rather clear to me that this war may last a lot longer that I originally hoped…

U-45 departs Lorient at dusk

wow, they seem to be sending us further and further from Germany

next mission we may be sailing up the Great lakes :p

So we can show the Canadians how a submarine should work, eh? :p

I have added a minor note to the second post - all crew and officers get immortality until the beginning of 1942, and the U-Boat (and by extension, Commander) get it until 1943.

For the record, the only person who has come close to dying has been Darth Pugwash (in our first patrol the radioroom took a hit and both the sonar and radioman were killed, but after we escaped the game crashed). Ironically, after reloading that game post-crash U-45 was sunk in the first ten minutes three or four times before I could make an escape.

The good news is that by that time the crew will have gained enough promotions and awards, and I will have improved as a SH3 commander that I hope we survive much longer. I guarantee you however, that our first 1943 patrol will involve an Allied airstrike into whatever port we are in before launching, and we'll take a direct hit :p

*sobers-up from booze and women*

Night watch eh! I'm all for that. It will help to recuperate from all that partiing I did while on land.

Psst, you're First Officer, Till is Second.

I'll let Rhein take the first watch while you sober up enough to remember your rank. I said that damned Iron Cross would go to your head.

wow, Das Boot?

anyway, I propose we turn on the radio and listen to that Tipperary song!

Heck, you gave me this shiny cross that impresses girls, what do you want me to do. Its always getting lonely on this ship, might as well use my land-time for a good cause.

The radio-man stood on the conning tower of U-45, and watched Lorient disapear into the growing darkness of the night. He liked Lorient. He looked forward to returning. But for now, there was no place he would rather be than on U-45, hunting the British again.

Germany seemed to have lost the impetus in the air battle over Britain, but she was still strong at sea. Where the Luftwaffe had faltered, the Kriegsmarine would suceed - of this the radioman had no doubt. Britain would be starved at sea. She would realise the foolishness of resistance and surrender by Christmas.

Wouldn't she?

:D

I know this is evil thread necrophilia - but I'm really keen to see this go on. So keen in fact that I've bought a $20 copy of SH3 from the local shop.

This is how you get his attention, apparently.

KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

Likewise I was wondering what happened to this.

Delayed for Rome, which in turn has been delayed by working so much. I am as keen as you lot to get back to this, so will perform an AAR necromancy sometime in the future, just not for a wee while.

If Noncon is still reading this, I trust you'll be happy to know I found a copy of Das Boot to read at last. I hope it's worth the wait :D

just found this.

hopefully something for you topick up after ww2 is ovr? :p
