Inquiring minds need to know: are there any games in the Civ series where you can get to Atomic Theory (or whatever it was named in that incarnation) without first researching The Wheel? I've only extensively played Civ 1, Civ 4, Civ Rev and Civ 5, and as far as I remember you can't do it in any of those.

I'm just curious, what prompted you to ask this question? I mean, if you've never seen it possible before what makes you wonder whether it was ever possible? Seems like quite a random question to me. Just curious, that's all. :)

Reminds me of when I was playing Civ IV, and in my beelining for mass media, got satellites before steam power. Not quite as extreme, but similarly humorously unrealistic!

When I first started CiV I didn't know the importance of pottery, so I went straight for the military techs. I unlocked Dynamite without knowing how to make a pot. Then I ran out of techs to research (Pottery was the only researchable tech) so I had to.

The wheel isn't on the tech tree in CivRev. Automobile is, but it isn't a prerequisite for anything.

It wasn't required in Guns or Butter, but then Civ 0 didn't have a tech tree.
