SO, i enjoy playing with 22 civs and a bunch of city states, and this by far is my favorite map. I was looking to do something different, so i want to try Indonesia on the Earth Map, from DLC I just got.

How would you civ 5 experts think I should go about this? What strategy should i put into place, to ensure i take advantage of there UA? Any advice from anyone who have done this would be greatly appreciated, t

From my experience with Indonesia, I'd suggest not trying to rush the UA. Don't go out of your way and suffer to found island colonies early. Enjoy your Kris Swordsmen while they last, keep the good promotions and disband the bad.

The Candi is always good - with even your religion it'll generate +4 Faith per turn. If you are warring and can steal a missionary, that'll get an extra religion into a city. Otherwise, diversify your trade routes to try and pick up a third & fourth for +8 Faith from your Candi.

I treat the UA as a nice bonus while expanding later (early Renaissance) rather than trying to cram it into the early game.

Well, play it like you would any other civ, benefit from your UU, place cities in good spots at a good spot to expand. But you get to enjoy some extra resources! As far as the candi goes, since you no longer need rivers, you should go tall & NEVER build inquisitors, just use a missionary if a civ had prophet bombed or missionary spammed a city, so you still get the benefit. You also have quite a few neighbors, so the game will be interesting. Policy-wise I'd go tradition & patronage, because all the bad Krises should be gifted to city-states, also just cuz Patronage is awesome.
Although, you could choose to go wide, using Spice Islanders to kick-start expansion and take all of Austarlia & the Pacific, which sounds rather interesting :mwaha:

As far as I'm aware, the archipelagos of southeast Asia and Japan, the Pacific islands, and the entire continent of Australia never start with civs on them, no matter the map size (though they may have CS). As Indonesia, depending on where you start, you can try to make a priority of colonizing those lands. Call it returning to your homeland, if you will. ;)

If you're hard up for cash this might not be a bad idea, but, as Silverman said, you might want to gift them to CSs for influence. Alternatively, if you took Oligarchy and/or Military Caste, you can just park them in your cities to gain the benefits for those SPs. Or just use them as bait against the AI to draw out their units.

If you don't have that worker handy, you could settle on top of a luxurious resource for an earlier happiness boost.

If you are Indonesia and are settling on or your first 3 cities on a different landmass, do NOT settle on a luxury or a strategic resource. The luxury or strategic will be destroyed and you will find yourself with a city that is located on one of Indonesia's unique luxuries. If you settle on any other tile, you will get the unique Indonesian luxury AND will still be able to improve the nearby luxury and strategic resource tiles.

This is great advice, ty. I love thé expanding into Austarlia & Asia Pacific idea, my only issue is you have no control over your starting location. You could end up in South America or Europe.

These are all valid suggestions as well. I seldom bother with gifting because the 5 influence does not usually appeal to me, but I've used them as shock troops many a time.

It always depends on the tactical situAtion, of course.
