There seems to be much misunderstadning and confusion regarding Industrious tribes vs non-industrious.
Some people say the industrious work as much as 200% faster
as non-industrious.

The fact is that industrious civs work beteween 25% and 33% faster depending on the task.

Captured workers work at half speed of NON-industrous workers
whether or not the tribe you are playing is industrous
(only your own workers complete tasks faster)

Industrous civs seem to be very popular for their working speed, but honestly - the speed is'nt that greater.

Please post your Comments:

Here is a list:

In versions prior to Conquests, the Industrious Workers worked at 200% the speed of Non-Industrious Workers.

To take an example from your list:

A non-industrious worker takes 3 turns to road a tile.

An industrious worker takes 1.5 turns. (But that must be rounded up to 2 turns, if only one worker is accomplishing the task. However, if two workers are working on it, they get done in one turn: 1.5 * 2 = 3. ;) )

In Conquests, they toned down the Industrious capabilities to only 150% on Non-Industrious (IIRC). So the trait isn't as overpowering as it once was. :)

The speed may not be that much greater on paper, but every time I play as a non-industrious civ it seems like everything takes forever. Once you spoil yourself with industrious, you can't go back to civving without it.

Indeed, it's noticeable when you're using it. Additionally, it's cumulative in nature. All of those turns you save add up.

So is 150% work speed for all tasks?

Anyway, your civ will alway consist of many captured workers (often more than 50%) which do not work faster, so this means totally the number should be more like 125% faster.
But of course the industrious trait is good in the start, and at invention of Steam power and so on.

I prefer the changes made to the Industrious trait in C3C. It is more balanced and not at all overpowering. The production bonus for larger cities is a bonus as well.

Padma,

I thought the bonus was set at 175% for C3C, not 150%?

The thing about captured workers not getting the industrial bonus is a bug AFAIK. You can tell it's a bug because it 'fixes' itself when you get Replacable parts, and then captured workers do get the industrial bonus (as well as the x2 Rep Parts bonus).

It was originally like this in the very first Civ3 vanilla, but they changed it pretty quickly in patches and in PTW. Unfortunately they seem to have re-introduced the bug for Conquests.

Check my post, again anarres: "In Conquests, they toned down the Industrious capabilities to only 150% on Non-Industrious (IIRC)." ;)

I'll have to search through the various discussions (here and maybe from the beta test site) to verify the actual ratio.

IIRC, the production bonus is where industrious civs get 1 extra shield in the city square for cities (7-12), and 2 extra for metropolis (13+).

Personally, I love the industrious trait. By the time you get replaceable parts in a democracy, it takes only one turn to railroad! :) Very useful in war for building supply lines to the front

My captured workersw always got the double bonus. However, I'm very pacifistic and I might not have captured any until replaceable parts. But I'm pretty sure.

Thanks for that information - I did'nt know

Does it mention anything in the rules?
