Information On Our Opponents

Seeing as we have a lot of a couple of resources, there must be some truth in what he is saying. I find it hard to believe that he would just tell people what they had, so I doubt very much that their two resources are marble and stone. Those make getting wonders too easy, anyway. More likely they have a luxury and a health resource like we do, but we can be pretty sure that the starts are pretty mirrored in that aspect.
Yeah...that sounds like pure misdirection to me. It's more likely they have gold, silver, gems or fur (along with some food), have decided a wonder is in order, and are trying to scare other teams off trying to build SH or beelining the Oracle to make it easier for them to complete. I would hope that there is either no marble/stone or that it is in one hard to reach or difficult to hold location on the map. Giving it to one team and not to all would be a seriously destabilizing factor, unless the rest of their land is totally crappy.

Just a thought, but he may be lying trying to throw us off.

Lying to throw us off, but nevertheless shopping for confirmation of this. Interesting, because resource trades will be important and early. They probably have some :health: + :) just like us, but different ones.

Maybe we should go into the UN part of the forum and talk about how it's odd, that we too seem to have a monopoly ----> whales and incense!

What would we accomplish by that? If you could point out what that would accomplish then I'd be all for it.

Or we could say that we are on Atlantis and have a bunch of towns pre built for us among the city ruins.

We could say we don't have a single tile without a resources. :p Though that really wouldn't do anything.

There are things we could say that would gain more information than they gave away. These are the kinds of things we should be looking to say. Make sure that what you say in the UN forum gives away next to nothing. It's safer to say nothing, so if you're not sure what it would accomplish then maybe it'd be better not to say it.

Obsolete was fishing for information. He assumed everyone had monopolies of resources. He therefore said he had a combination that would not be fair, and even complained about it. This was intended to give away the minimum amount of information while possibly getting someone to say something.

I now understand why TMIT was suggesting we say something like whale and incense. This encourages people to throw information out there, even misinformation. Misinformation is better than no information. If others start throwing stuff out there, even in a joking way, someone might get a little carried away and give away too much. I'd be okay with saying something like that.

How was that?

I don't think whale/incense is likely to draw much response, because I doubt anyone got just those two. What would be interesting is to claim we got two early accessible resources - like pigs and gold or corn and gems. Someone probably got one and another got the other. We might get someone to say there aren't monopolies, and hence we will know they have either pigs or gold.

"I'll take our 2 corn and 3 gems over your marble/stone any day!" would be more likely to yield useful information from smart opponents. If they're really smart, we'll say "sheep and gold" or "corn and fur" in case they make the assumption we wouldn't give away what we have. Dumb opponents are easy to fool, but I doubt we have many of that breed. True deviousness is required if we are going to talk.

It's true that if we re: obsolete's statement with "I don't know, only stone and marble doesn't seem so powerful when you have lots and lots of corn/gems!", it would be a bit more convincing than picking terrible resources. It also doesn't specifically say we have those things, btw ;).

One other interesting post by obsolete was this:

Well I am sure glad to hear that. Though I would have appreciated it if these warnings were ahead of time, so I wouldn't have to throw my other plans out the window now.

He posted this before his other post. He was responding to this:

No, there are no more barbarian surprises.

He's hinting that GLH was part of his original plans. Most likely a lie to try and throw people off.

In the sign-up thread, obs was acting as if he wouldn't participate heavily. Maybe he's gotten more into it now, but I find it interesting that the other star deity players (including supposed captain DMOC) are quiet on the matter. IMO don't put too much stake in any of this...
