Input not support?

Bought the game off steam. Every time I start it up, the screen goes black and the message "Input not support" displays. I d/l'd the new Nvidia driver and optimized for Beyond Earth. Still having the same issue. I can hear the music playing and if the game does not have full screen focus I can see it. But whenever I click in I get that message again.

My resolution is 1920x1080 refresh rate 60mhz.

Welcome to CivFanatics!

Please attach your DxDiag.txt file:

Hit the "Windows key" and "R", type in Dxdiag, hit enter. A menu will appear, with a save option at the right bottom. Save the file and attach it here. This provides us with essential information about your system.

Thanks.

I am having the Same Issue. I have can temporally fix it by changing the setting to windowed mode in the graphics setting but I would rather not do that.

Hi Gallaid,

Welcome to CivFanatics!

It appears that the game is trying to run at a resolution that isn't supported by your monitor. Find the file GraphicsSettings.ini (default location is C:\Users\(user name)\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth) and look for the section labeled ScreenSettings. Here's what mine looks like:
Code:
[ScreenSettings]

MSAASamples = 4

WaitForVSync = 1

Refresh Rate = 60

WindowResX = 1920

WindowResY = 1080

FullScreen = 0

StereoConvergenceMin = 0.000000

StereoConvergenceMax = 0.000000

StereoCursorOffset = 0.000000

ScreenShotWidth = 0

ScreenShotHeight = 0

Version = 1

The entries for Refresh Rate, WindowResX and WindowResY may be the source of your problem. Does this help? If not, please post again.

(Note to rontheneq: Same advice applies to you.)

I encountered this same problem on an AMD system. If I launched the game in windowed mode (by manually editing the graphics settings), once I got to the settings screen I could switch to Fullscreen and it would be fine. But if the settings were set to fullscreen at launch, I'd get the "input not supported" type of message.

Cause: The introductory logos are running at a different resolution & refresh rate, and not honoring the game's graphics settings. The choices it makes are not compatible with some displays.

Solution: Using AMD Catalyst, I enabled GPU upscaling of content to 1080p. At launch, the GPU now sends the logos at 1080p @ 24Hz, and it runs fullscreen just fine. Once the game starts, it runs at 60Hz. I imagine there's a similar setting for Nvidia, but someone else would have to post where to find it.

I looked at this since I am having the same problem as well and it is listed correctly. It shows refresh of 60, and settings at 1920 and 1080. Still getting the same error.

Tolero317,

Welcome to Civfanatics!

Take a look at fourty2j's post. He has a solution for the problem. Please post again if you have any questions. If this doesn't fix the problem, please attach a copy of your DxDiag.txt file. Here's how to do so:

Hit the "Windows key" and "R", type in Dxdiag, hit enter. A menu will appear, with a save option at the right bottom. Save the file and attach it here. This provides us with essential information about your system.

I switch my setting up I still am having the issue. Even though I'm changed the settings.

Ok, I don't know for sure if this will work because my Nvidia system didn't experience the error. But I'm fairly confident it will.

1) Open "NVIDIA Control Panel" (in Win 7, this is under Control Panel - All Control Panel Items; in Win 8, you'll have to find it)
2) In the left nav, under Display, select "Adjust desktop size and position"
3) On the Scaling tab, mark the following settings:
  • Scaling mode: Full-Screen
  • Perform scaling on: GPU
  • Override scaling mode set by games and programs: Checked
4) Make sure the resolution is set to the native resolution of your screen (probably 1920x1080)

Please report back and let us know if this works.

I'm having the same issue. I'll try this tonight and report back.

To add to the discussion, I have an ASUS VN248H-P monitor, and it just displays "Out of Range" in a little floating box. If I only have my second monitor on (well, actually my plasma TV), the game launches fine. I can then turn on my main monitor and it will run the game just fine. It also runs fine at lower resolutions.

Since it sounds like this is caused by the introductory logos, does anyone know if there's a way to skip them? They don't add anything to the experience.

I tried forty2j's first suggestion (turning on GPU scaling). It turns out it was already on, so it had no effect. I then tried to eliminate the starting logos and videos as described here. That also didn't fix the issue (though it is nice to not have to see the splash screens). The only way I was able to get this to work was to switch the game to windowed mode, launch it, and switch back to fullscreen.

To switch it to Windowed outside of the game, go to your My Documents\My Games\Sid Meiers Beyound Earth\GraphicsSettings.ini. There is a setting called "fullscreen" - set it to 0, save, and launch the game.

Can you post a screenshot of your Nvidia control panel on the display tab I mentioned? Curious if yours is different from mine and/or I missed a setting.

I tried the nvidia control panel. I couldn't change the preform scaling on setting from display. Still didn't work.

Well I got it to be in full screen. When starting up but I had to change it to 1600x800. not sure if this helps with the trouble shooting. I would like to start it in 1920x1080

That's.. bizarre. I'd also like to see a screennie if your Nvidia Control Panel. I can't understand why "GPU" wouldn't be in the "perform scaling" dropdown.
