Some people said that BtS gives bad starting positions... I tend to disagree.. :D

Wow. That's just absurd. I think I once had a two gold, 1 food resource starting spot, but this beats pretty much everything I have ever seen. If you would have been a financial civ, I would just call this a win and move on.

With that number of gold deposits, you should be able to keep tech pace with the AI even if you're playing at immortal+.

I am only emperor... i got my first samurai in 350BC.. :D and I am alone on a huge island with Isabela... Too easy...

Just for kicks, do you remember the map settings you used?

I remember seeing some pretty good Warlords starts, but nothing nearly as good as this yet in BtS.

I like the Hemispheres map by the way. You often get big continents, with a couple of civs, but also get enough islands and smaller continents. Sometimes you might even be able to use your galleys to reach the new world.

great start. just be greatful you have the food to work all those gold pits. many times in bts i have gotten insanely low-food capitals where i have to rely on grassland farms for growth :vomit:

Pigs + two floodplains = 14 food + 2 from the city square which equals enough to cover all mines + grow.

I had one with the Dutch last week that had 3 gold, corn, cows, and about 4 flood plains with several other hills. Before 1000 BC I'd had two other mines discover Gold and Gems so it was a capital with 4 gold, gems, corn, and cows. There were so many hills in the fat cross that I never built any cottages in my capital despite being Financial.

The game was on Monarch and I did an Oracle slingshot to grab Civil Service around 1500 BC. There was also Stone to the northwest for my 2nd city and Marble to the southwest for my 3rd city. It was an absurd start.

Oh god, I frakking love gold. I think it's the best resource in the game. Nothing beats getting 8 coins easy with a Financial Civ. (9 with river :D)

I like gems more. Being on grasslands allow you to work it and grow fast at the same time.

Very nice start indeed. Enough food to work everything. Very nice indeed. But I tend to agree with Sigmakan that riverside grassland gems are the best early game resource in my book.

I've had as many as eight specials. Of which only one required Calendar to use, and three were gems (without jungle, even, so I just needed Mining to rake in the mad cash). That was in a vanilla game.

My earliest Space Race Victory in Vanilla was in 1596AD with Liz (note: Marathon speed). That was about 100 years faster than any other space win I had.
What made such a difference, you may ask. It only took having 2 gold mines for my capital.

So, yes, this is an insane start.

I had 4 gold, cow, wheat and IRON with Rome last week.
Wanted to take the pic later when developed and forgot, of course.
But generally the BTS starts are much, much weaker, maybe 3-4 ressources average.

You need bronze working for that. I am talking about the resources that can be present in your BFC at 4000 BC. (ok you could hypothecally have copper in your BFC if you settle and then pop a hut with bronze working :p). One thing about copper though, I have never had a riverside copper or iron mine if I am not mistaken. Is that a nono in this game?

I had that happen to me quite recently, as a matter of fact...
