Installing BAT mod on Steam?

ack..can't run the installer as I already have it installed. I thought it actually said SP or MP as well, but I believe it is the "as a mod" option

This is what the game should look like. Note the green bug button at the top left (bug options). The Great General progress bar to the left of the techs at the top, and Great Person progress bar to the right. The field of view slider is at the top right.

Okay, so that UI looks exactly the same as when I load up BUG mod.

I'll re-install using the "as a mod" option like you suggested.
After that it asks me for the BAT mod directory;
Where do I point it to? steam/bts/bts/mods?

Also, did you try to use the zip?
Did it work for you when you just unpacked it to bts/bts/mods like I did?

Oh yes, sorry, I thought that was already clear. That is where your mods go.

Well, no, I already have BAT installed. I just downloaded to see if there were any special instructions and there were none. Really the exe is the way to go. The zip folder is there for those who have issues.

And, yeah, BAT is basically BUG+BULL+Graphical Assets. It has everything with bug/bull except there is not extra setup for the optional features like worker chops and sentry, plus a lot of graphical stuff and blue marble, though I have blue marble also install separately.

If I still can't get BAT to work, is it possible to perfectly re-create it using separate mods (like you insinuated)?
Is there a guide to do such a thing on CivFanatics?

It would be very bizarre not to get it to work. I've never had a problem with a BAT install, and I've never run anyone who has. It is a very stable mod.

You can always just run bug/bull for now, or try the BUFFY. BUG/BULL can be installed in Custom Assets and; therefore, does not have to be loaded as a mod. I believe you already have Blue Marble installed. So all you are missing is the extra graphics, which are mostly units, flags and leaderheads.

The fact that you are seeing the mod in the in-game menu seems to indicate that it is installed. I'm not sure if you've tried with the exe yet, though.

Seriously?! I'm the ONLY one who BAT doesn't work for?
Haha! Just my luck

All I really "need" is BUG, but gosh I'd love to see those fancy BAT graphics....
I can try again with the .exe though.
Should I clear the cache first?

Is the creator of BAT available at all?

Ok...so you still haven't tried with the exe. Please do so after removing the BAT folder and clearing the cache as I described above.

BAT is nice as it has everything in one package with the optional features that I too like worker chops and sentry heal. (those are bull features)

Folks have had issues, but they are usually resolved. It could be any of the previous problems we discussed. It seems everything is fine, but it appears that something is in conflict that I just cannot see. It is easier if we had time to really discuss in real time instead of messages like every 24 hours.

The original creators are long gone, and another person maintained the mod for some years - she was a moderator too - but she had to leave for health reasons. Regardless I know just about everything there is to know about the mod and its installation. I've been playing, and installing it, for about 17 years now. I've used the Steam version for quite some years too. BAT is perfectly stable. There are no installation issues. There is something on your end that is just not jiving, or you have something installed in the game that I am not aware of yet.

It's possible that it may be a Registry issue. The exe might resolve that.

Oh, I have tried the .exe installer, but that was on one of my first attempts at getting BAT to work.
The .zip seemed to be a more manual process, thus I figured it would be easier to troubleshoot.
However, I'll clear everything (including the cache), and try the .exe like you suggested.

SUCCESS!!!

Once I cleared the cache everything worked perfectly!
Can't thank you enough for helping me trouble shoot this :goodjob:

That cache is kept in such a strange directory;
I NEVER would have figured that out

Awesome! Glad you got it to work. Yeah, I thought the cache might be related since you had tried to install via the exe before unsuccessfully, before taking the necessary steps earlier like with Steam.

If that did not work, we might have had to take a look at your registry, but glad we don't have to deal with it now.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to help me out

The BAT mod is incredible! I don't think I could go back to vanilla...
Are there any mod settings I should pay attention to?

Most of the good things should already be set up. I can't remember, but it may default to always build units or something like that on the city screen tab. At least it does for me. You don't want that on. You will know cause you will see warrior builds in the build queue with an * next to them. If not, then it did not default as checked. And I recommend that you check the thing where workers stop chopping on last turn, but I think that is on by default. (just looked at it....it is "prechop" forests and improvement on the General tab, but that should already be checked. And "Build Units Forever" at bottom right on City Screen tab ..you want that off, cause it is silly.

Otherwise, the only other thing I like to change is the on the Advisor tab under Foreign at the middle left, I just the Glance to "Both". In the Foreign Advisor screen you will see the smilie and the # of their attitude towards you and others, rather than just the smilie.

I don't really recommend much else. It would be a matter of taste really. You can go through the options and check things out, but I would not mess with anything that you are unsure of. Most features are enabled, so really it is a matter of just understanding it. The nice thing about BAT is that the UI is improved, and you don't have to think about it much.

I noticed the workers would leave 1 turn left on the chop and was wondering why.
Thanks for letting me know about that option! I kinda like it that way though.

The "Build Units Forever" got me a few more Archers than I wanted, but whatever

You're right, the way the BAT interface is setup is so finely crafted.
You can tell it was a labour of love!

Yeah, that is a favorite feature for the "pros" here, as chops are significant to advanced play. So, we have to manually cancel worker orders each turn, or forget and have them finish the chop before we want them. Every hammer counts in this game especially on higher levels.

I think that's where my play could use improvement; I'm not using my hammers efficiently.
Because of that I'm getting stuck at Emperor and can't seem to improve.

I've watched AbsoluteZero on youtube - he's great! ...but he doesn't explain his decisions.
Is there a resource you know about to help intermediate players like me become advanced?
