Integrating Mods - Incorporating / Exploring Ideas from other mods.

while i'm certainly not the expert on specialists, can't you use the same code in the total war mod  i mean, if he was able to add them can't you merge the code he was using into c2c?????

You haven't seen the code. It is the best spagettii code the object oriented method can come up with. It is all in the one python that controls the display. It already uses the same generic module that I assume Total War and others use, IE Johny Smith's Specialist Stacker, unfortunately the part for the second column of specialists was not included. I had gotten there with about 10-20 lines of code and it needed only one more to finish.

well who knows maybe he has those lines(probably not  ) but hey, you might still find them i mean if he was able to program a new way religions work, who knows what else he made !!!!! :)

Maybe if there was a posting of the spaghetti code, it could be unraveled by everyone and rewritten. Bug squashing can be as complicated sometimes.

The makers and contributors of a mod can potentially still be contacted to help integrate ideas and code. You could be the one to enlist their aid.

Total War and Civ Gold both have unintegrated content that would be useful. It is great that each of you care about them. Strategy Only has been adding civs slowly. Amra had a big mod with a lot of civs added as well (I will have to look for it). The more we can help the main C2C modders break down and list the ideas (and civs) from those mods, the more likely they will be discussed enough to be considered.
Everybody)Please take the time to list the breakdown of major and useful ideas and content for each mod, as you wish of course.

It would be nice to encourage their help, and contributions, especially because they could develop a desire to dabble with helping C2C become even more of a dream team, and the most awesome community mod(not that it isn't doing so quickly :) ). At the very least they could possibly be convinced to become official C2C advisers / consultants. A lot of people already have. You can have your own mod, and still help with the C2C community, especially because it is the largest and most ambitious mod.

If we can port code it saves the ModTeam a ton of time. Maybe we can all look for team members to find some help.
Pretty much anyone who wants to help or learn to integrate would be nice.
Except for python work (like the .dll file) I think most of the xml files can be easily edited and compared with a program like winmerge .
It's free and on sourceforge.
http://winmerge.org/

Once people start voting on content they want to see from other mods, it will be easier to enlist help.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. I don't see why we couldn't help each other. Right now I'm working on my Super Workers Mod that adds promotions to workers over in the Realism Forum. My other ideas were to create the Sack city mod, naval war only, air war only, and netural territory war only.

I would be glad to try to help you. Did you want to see if we could port the ideas to C2C? We could be able to enlist help on this side once we draw some interest. They could be done as C2C modmods. That way they could be ported back, or built as stand-alones. I am trying to learn modding and get help here so that we can help people like you.

Could you help us here by listing more ideas from mods, and listing/voting the ones you want to see most?

Okay I've updated most of the existing ideas from this thread.

Everyone -Please feel free to comment on them, look for more, update us on what has been included, discussed, or dropped. I have some links to add, the list of everything I suggested, and a bunch from other C2C threads. Please take a moment to re-read the first posts of this thread(if you haven't) and comment /vote here for the ones you want to see in C2C.

We will always need help finding great ideas from other mods, that should be considered for C2C. Please continue to look and post them here. And if you want to help volunteer to learn how to port them in, Please let us know here if you are interested.

I challenge everyone to find at least one good ideas from a mod they played, that should be in C2C and let us know here. If the code is accessible it could be an easy port and make C2C better! Happy Hunting!

This was the #4 post of the Idea/Discussions thread. I am re-posting here in case no one ever saw it. ModTeam - Please let me know if it has been used. I will link to discussions or mark it dismissed.

Triturador's Stone Age mod inserted a new Stone Age civic per category (one of which was -75% culture). He also gagged racial traits until the Neolithic era, as his mod had the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, and had all sorts of interesting early units, buildings and mechanics.

Definitely check out his mod! (3.17 version.)

(I will try to find a link)
If anyone want to break down the ideas in this mod or vote for it, Please do right here! :)

Excellent. I'll mark it off as included. Thanks for filling me in.
I'll make sure to research as I fill in some more tonight.

1. Already went though this before we added custom terrains.

2. Neat!

3. Hmm will have to look into.

Thank you for your commentary Hydro and GiuseppeIII. I really appreciate your comments.

I will go through and reference/link all the 'Recent' other mod discussions in other C2C threads(i've seen some) here very soon.
If you remember any other mods that had good ideas or content, please take some time to mention them here.

@Everyone, especially C2C players -
Please feel free to talk opening here about the other mods you've played. And please tell us what you like. You are all very much invited to help us find ideas from other mods that could improve C2C.
Every now and then we run across a well developed feature in a mod that could have saved a lot of time for the modders if it could be easily integrated.
I really could use your help in voting for ideas that you like that are already listed in this thread, so we all know what is a great idea.
This is your chance to make C2C better! Thank you for any help you can offer:)
