So imagine the following situation. One has a city with a 100% bonus on gold production due to buildings (market, bank, grocer). One has also just discovered a technology, say Democracy, that several other civs have had for quite a while. Which is going to bring in more money:

a) Setting that city toward "wealth" production
b) Setting that city to produce the Statue of Liberty Wonder, fully expecting that one will lose the race but get the cash bonus one gets when one loses the Wonder race.

Thanks.

Assuming you have copper stature of liberty will give most(assuming non vanilla) and even in vanilla the fact that you only get 50% of hammers in return for gold makes it a tossup(though if you have any production bonuses(say a forge) statue is still better. Basically if you have production bonuses losing a wonder is almost always better than producing wealth.

I assume your not actually going to use the wealth towards research cause if you have very high gold multipliers and lower beaker multipliers it pays off to produce research(though building the statue might still be easier). With academy + library +.. in your high commerce cities producing wealth(or starting on the wonder) would give you more return than building research.

The :hammers: used producing wealth or research do not go through commerce multipiers (e.g., market, library). They only get multiplied but production bonus (forge, factory).

slaze they do in vanilla and he didn't specify what game version he was playing. There you only get 50% of the return for hammers though making wonders way better anyways.

if he posts in BtS forum, than he probably has BtS.
If you have copper or are industrious, than go with SoL, otherwise wealth is maybe better as you get the gold immediately.

This isn't the BTS forum though ;). And sol is better with copper or industrious no matter the version. With neither wealth will produce the same as so(except in vanilla where sol might still give more if he have forge ol.).

Failed wonders are ALWAYS better than wealth in vanilla. Failed spaceship parts work too.
true, and failed national wonders work too, but require a bit of queue juggling.
I quite often do it for hermitage which I ultimately build somewhere it is required, but start in a few different production cities where I certainly don't want it.

sidenote : why on earth would you want to lose the SoL?
it's such a strong wonder !
