Interesting Occurance in Rome: Total War

hmmm I'm a bit skeptical...
Skeptical of what? That it is any good? Better than vanilla? This mod makes the game more complex within the old framework.

??????????

Most heavy cavalry have an alternate attack, the way that archers have an alternate attack. The difference is that since both weapons are melee weapons, the attack icon stays the same. Usually, the primary weapon is a spear and the secondary is a sword.

If you alt-attack something with cavalry, they'll charge with their lances, and automatically switch to the secondary weapon. The reason why kata-tanks are so good is because their secondary weapon is an armour piercing mace, and they're the only heavy cav to have this.

Yeah I know about that, however I thought that occurred immediately at the end of the battle. Maybe one of the mercenary cavalry joined my general. ;)

Maybe he gained some influence? I think that increases the size of a general's bodyguard.

The scythians are in RTW, haven´t you noticed them?

They´re so far up the north/east that they won´t be noticeable if you´re Scipii, Julii, or any other Eastern Nation. You can conquer them if you play Armenia.

Who aren't unlockable.

It's not that hard at all in regular Rome. There's some file where you move a faction's name from under "unplayable" to "playable." The only problem factions are rebels and Senate (causes crashes). In BI it works much the same way, but it causes more problems for the emergent factions. Those take some serious modding.

EDIT: the file is called descr_strat.txt, and the path is Rome - Total War\Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt

When you finish, it should look like this:

Code:
campaign imperial_campaign
playable
	romans_julii
	romans_brutii
	romans_scipii
	macedon
	pontus
	armenia
	dacia
	numidia
	scythia
	spain
	thrace
	egypt
	seleucid
	carthage
	parthia
	gauls
	germans
	britons
	greek_cities
end
unlockable

end
nonplayable
	romans_senate
	slave
end

This is right at the beginning of the file.

Just cut and paste.

yeah i tried that and now it works - cheers. Do the factions work properly? Do they have an intro movie? Do the units respond when you select them? (generals on the game map?)

They won't have some of the frills--none (but Macedon perhaps? I think they have the greek one) have intro movies, and none (but again Macedon, IIRC) have descriptions in the campaign select screen. But functionally they work just as well as any other faction.
