Interesting Screenshots

Alright, I will find some from various ages, wait a few minutes

EDIT: Here they are. I removed cities so that it was easier to see the island with all its forts!

Actually when I was at war with America and Portugal, the Americans sent a few ships over. They had mainly Ancient Cavalry, but there were a few pikes/knights in there. Also, next to Portugal, there is a small 3 city island which I took, both the Portugese and Americans sent dozens of troops across. Mainly Ancient Cavalry, Knights, Pikes and a couple of Muskets. Nothing compared to fortified Modern Armour/Mech Infantry!

Yeah, but the fortresses and barricades were wasted effort. There's only a couple of units that have amphibious assault, and it doesn't look like you were playing them. Of course, much later in the game, Marines can be used for AA, but it's easier to keep a few units in the cities so they don't take them, and then just pick them off as they land. Before they had Marines, you could have simply parked a worker in every coastal tile and they couldn't have landed to attack you.

Yeah, I suppose I could have, but I needed to use all my Crusaders somehow, and that seemed to be the best option.

Isn't the worker thing changed with 1.22 though? Just playing a mod recently my non-amphibious units were able to perform "amphibious landings" on workers and this is not something that can be modded in as far as I'm aware. Of course, the AI may not know this...

I think it is still only Marines which can do amphibious assaults, as when I have tried to attack a coastal city from a boat, I get a message telling me that only amphibious units can attack from the sea.

Are you playing the last version of Conquests, 1.22? That's what againsttheflow is talking about. And if you play the Vikings, their UU, The Bezerker, has amphibious assault.

Yeah, I have Civ 3 Complete, which has Vanilla, PTW and Conquests fully patched. For that game I was using Conquests. Also, I have never actually used the Vikings, maybe I should try them some time...

You missed a few spots. :p

The Berzerk pwns all in the Middle Ages.

You can grab workers from a boat with any unit, which makes a good use for older units, exchanging a warrior for a worker is a good deal.

Yup, I just tested and it appears any 0 def unit--worker, settler, and scout anyway--can be captured by any unit amphibious or no in Conquests 1.22. I'm still not sure the AI were enlightened as to this rule though...

Nope, the AI is blissfully ignorant of that ability, so if you have tons of slaves, you can line your coasts with them and never have a landing. I believe it's a disallowed exploit in some competitive games.

Something odd, the normal raw material's unit which should be a truck turned into Elvis. Is it Elvis's birthday today?
