Tempting fate -- why not?

Whatever shall the poor Indian folk do?

Now, why couldn't have I started on THIS side of the island?

Sorry, but that's flawed. The AIs get TWO extra settlers on Sid. So, they'll each have to burn each others second and third city. On top of this, the have a build rate of .4... meaning they need 5 food to grow from size 1 to size 2 (up to size 7) and 12 shields to produce a settler. So, even if they spit out a nice 24 shield temple and maybe a 16 shield rax first, they might still have another city or three out by this time. They also have a slew of starting units and need only 4 shields for a warrior and 8 for an archer or spearman. Your thought comes as mildly interesting... mainly because... even though it's hard to calculate... I'd expect it less probable than the SGL fortune/great start of archphoneix's Cheiftain 20k HoF game or any other HoF game for that matter. As a sophism that's nice though.

Honestly, I dare you to try and let us all watch you try this, because it "can't hurt". We'll have a good time watching you crash and burn. And if I'm wrong, you'll succeed rather gloriously against probably the expectations of just about everyone around here.

You're assuming that they have room to put that third city down. Which, in my game, was only halfway true--the Mongols didn't have room. I think they would keep the settler in the capital (?) until there was room to put it down.

In other words, if you got the timing juuuuuuuuust right... OK, probably not.

The city screen doesn't show were the citizen is working! I can't think of anywhere she can work that would give that food shield and gold production.

Theryman probably has it. Other than that.. New Shanghai 4?!

I can't think of anywhere she can work that would give that food shield and gold production.

How 'bout the plains right above and slightly to the left of the city.

She would need to be producing exactly 3 food, 1 shield, and 2 commerce. There is no such place that I can see in the city's zone.

For some reason I was thinking it needed to be one more of each. Would it not be 3 commerce though?

3 food, 1 shield, 3 commerce, New Shanghai 4, and why the hell is China Black?

Any of the irrigated plains would give 3 food, 1 shield, and 2 gold, but where the hell is the third gold coming from?

The laborer is one of the two irrigated and railroaded plains tiles to the NNE. I had a city further away in that direction which I abandoned during the interturn. I can't remember exactly where it was, but I think it was on the RRed hill at CxxxC distance. With that city in place those plains tiles were within my cultural border. Without that city, they aren't anymore. But the laborer is still working them.

And I have about 350-400 cities which explains New Shanghai 4.

ETA: China is black because I messed with the colors. Zululand is now China-colored.

Then where's the extra gold coming from?

Road+River= 2 gold.

I'd say the RR'ed plains 2xNE, which is definitely on a river. And of course this is Vanilla so there's no rubble where the city was abandoned as a clue.

This is a screenshot from the Far Horizons thread, and hopefully, Sword of Geddon (who posted this screenshot showing the Future Era in his mod) won't mind if I post this here:

I personally find it amazing how confusing a tech tree can be when all the arrows are screwed up (not to criticize it: I personally would like to know how this mod would be like).

Xerxes just happened to have a couple of spare units floating around after killing off the Inca, and a Barb village popped up in the fog....

Persia entered the IA the turn after the village appeared - so it was chock full of Horsemen, all of which pinged themselves helplessly on the stack to their SE.

I'm annoyed that I can't get to the village myself, I really need the 25g:

If you want to get to the village, there's always the option of "removing" the Persians in your way. :mischief:

Sure, and he's likely to help himself to a few juicy stacks of slaves in recompense!!
