this is bug no. 100023514. It turns out I'm a post release beta tester for firaxis without knowing it, and working for free. The intro movie doesn't seem right. I hear Nimoy speaking and only see the begining of a movie consisting of a small ball that gets bigger (the earth I guess) then it freezes will Nimoy keeps talking and then the game suddenly starts after the last frame of the intro movie vaguely appears for half a second. Either it's the crapiest intro movie ever conceived or it's freezing on my system.
