Invisible mode, reported posts and pms: communicating with moderators

*shrug* Just mentioning one of the options you have when you see something you consider offensive.

 Just pointing out how silly it would be to report something to people have have obviously already read it....

Indeed, I also don't like reporting anybody, they have to get really nasty for me to want to do it.

I don't report a lot of people myself, either. And neilmeister, the reason I mentioned it in the first place was because in general, people don't notice 100% of everything going on around them. On a forum, sometimes people show up with questionable avatars, sigs, locations, usertitles, etc. And the mods don't necessarily see them right away, even if they're both posting in the same thread.

My post was in no way intended to cause trouble for Buster's Uncle. I was merely mentioning one of the options people have here.

I wish to exit this conversation now.

Peace & good luck everyone. :)

... and if I wanted conflict and Good luck, should I be offended? ;)

Lefty, you're worth listening too; have you been following my tirades? Any thoughts about the topic(s) under discussion?
I make most of my policy posts and most of my longer posts in staff discussion. I read here and post there.

I ratio my game forum time at a ration of 5 gaming hours to 1 forum hour, and currently spend more my time at an Oblivion forum than here, so I stick my long serious posts where they might do the most work, to fit the time budgeted.

That is probably wise.

Edit: that came out sounding wrong. I meant Gaming Good.

Maybe that would best be achieved by attending a soccer or hockey game on St. Patrick's Day (multitasking, and all...). ;)
[snickers] Clever.

Interestingly enough, I've gotten an unexpected side benefit from all this rambling conversation straddling two threads - we're training a group of CMNs right now, and the CMN in charge asked me to participate in the leadership/management style part of the training. All this talk has helped me organize my thoughts (laugh all you want; this has helped. :D) and crystalize my thinking.

Anyone curious about what I'm telling my own upcoming managers? I've said it all here already, but this is more focused...

Speaking of which, the Nexus Network of game sites, bigger and more successful than CFC

Likely over $100,000 per year in bandwidth/server/hosting costs (it was around $80,000 three years ago before two major expansions)
Is the archtype of Draconian forum justice
one major violation, which seems to be most of them, (like posting something that indicate that you pirated anything,* or trolling a moderator) perma-ban
three minor, perma-ban
They make CFC staff look like anarchists.
Just have a look at their Forum Rules and strikes forum:
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/188-forum-rules-and-strikes/

*
We have a strict anti-piracy policy on these forums and the Nexus sites and we take a proactive and pre-emptive stance on anyone we believe is using a pirated version of any game or software.
If you give us reason to believe that you are a software pirate you will be instantly banned.

They don't speak enough German. If the CFC staff knew the master tongue, this site would be for the better.

:D

Since it's mostly negative feedback here from members, I might just as well add that I have no complaints about how the site is managed. I'm honestly impressed by the patience showed.

This forum's moderation standards not being as savage or anarchic as other forums' doesn't mean we can't find faults with it, eh?

I've never intended to imply that there isn't much, a mountain, that CFC does right. Success is success.

However, there's no way to point out problems without pointing out problems and the buck rightly ought to stop on the president's desk. Attempts at establishing the existence of problems, alas, subject you to drive-by 'whining' accusations, which is really helpful, BTW, but is the price of doing business.

Now, let's kick around some improvements...

We can't rush that without leaders.
