Invitation to OT users: Join the Civfanatica Community

I'm having fun with it -- thanks very much for the invitation!

It's not much of a GAME though -- more of a political toy, like SimCity. I checked out their forums to find out more about how the political system rated players into UN categories, and knowing how that works enhanced my enjoyment of it. Now my goal is to move my nation steadily towards absolute personal and political freedom, while keeping the tax rate as low as possible. And encouraging all others in the region to do so as well.

Another possible goal is recruitment -- maybe of non-CFC members, even. In fact, that goal would be in accord with our purpose of keeping the region thriving.

a worthy goal, but take from me- not practicle in any sense of the imagination.

I tried this when i was the regions UN deligate (I was the deligate for the longest period of time IIRC) and it is neigh impossible- at one time I did have a hefty string on non in region allie si could call upon to help me protect myself, and the entire region though ;)

I have decided to rejoin :) the NRI republic is back in action :)

@Mojo - Great. You really have to put something in it to get something back! :goodjob:

@Xen - I'm delighted. You were a good rep. The region suffered much with your departure.

@Both - I will resign from the UN soon, in order to throw the doors open for a new rep. It isn't right that the founder is rep too.

I have made an official opening bid on the regions board, i hope that some of the older member will give recomendations :)

if we can get the place up and running again, we can do the same for the scenario :)

and thank you mightilly for the compliment! :D :goodjob:

New Plexia has endorsed the NRI. And let it be known that if the nations of Civfanatica are willing, New Plexia would be more than willing to be the Regional Representative.

On another note, we would like to reiterate our offer to make flags for any nation that wants one.

the NRI has posted a new speech in the regional bullitin board, and suggest all members look at it- the republic has deatiled several new ideas for getting the region back on track for glory

What exactly is this thing? I really don't get it... Looks cool, but I'm still terribly confused. :crazyeye:

lol, its sort of a political simualtion...where you are mor eor less in cntrol of your own nation, and how it interacts with other nations... all in all, it has its moments fo being interesting, followed by periods of being VERY boring- the best plan to do it is once of twice a day- or many depeending on what going on at the time, just sort of hang out, but make sure you have a plac elike cfc up as well ;)

I suggest try making your own nation, and just try it our for a few days- if you dont like it, ditch it, but to avoide, like I said, one trip a day is MORE then enough to keep it up- in fact once ever 5 days isnt terrible either ;) (for a while, it was mor elike once a month, but now I'm coming backj for a while ;))

I got pretty much the same goal, right now I achieved to get "World Benchmark" on my Civil Rights :goodjob:, trying to get Political Freedoms up there as well, while not neglecting the economy too much...

I've tried the ten-question survey from each extreme in Government Style now, and answering more or less the same each time have achieved similar results.

Political freedom is slightly more important to me than Personal freedom, and both are measurably more important to me than Economic freedom.

right on brotha'!

I just made a nation and signed up and joined my own region like 4 hours ago. Talk about timing for seeing this thread!

(This means I wont be joining btw, but my region is Albany btw)

Have you guys studied the way that NS rates a nation's Civil Rights, Economy and Political Freedom?

The game rates these on a scale of 1 to 15, with 8 being average. When you get to (around) the 12th tier, you are rated "World Benchmark" or "Powerhouse." Beyond that tier, the superlatives start to get NEGATIVE... In all categories, when one aspect of the system is too high the social problems that result from it become negative.

Therefore the ideal society strives to maintain all three measures of success around level 12. Once a measure rises above 12, a gov't should be looking for ways to reduce that attribute.

Here is a chart compiled by another player that shows all the superlatives and their corresponding levels:

(RT)Economic -----------Political Freedoms----Civil Rights(-- )

(15)Frightening---------Corrupted------------Widely Abused
(14)All-Consuming-----Widely Abused-------Frightening
(13)Powerhouse-------Excessive -------------Excessive
(12)Thriving-------------World Benchmark----World Benchmark
(11)Very Strong--------Superb-----------------Superb
(10)Strong--------------Excellent---------------Excellent
(09)Good----------------Very good-------------Very Good
(08)Fair------------------Good-------------------Good
(07)Reasonable--------Average---------------Average
(06)Developing---------Below Average------Below Average
(05)Struggling----------Some------------------Some
(04)Weak----------------Few--------------------Few
(03)Fragile---------------Rare-------------------Rare
(02)Basket Case-------Unheard Of-----------Unheard Of
(01)Imploded-----------Outlawed-------------Outlawed

This is interesting.

NationStates is dominated by several "feeder" regions... Regions where nations appear when first spawned. They are:

The Pacific
The South Pacific
The East Pacific
The North Pacific
The West Pacific
The Rejected Realms

The Rejected Realms is where your nation is sent is your region's UN Delegate or Founder eject your nation from any other region.

A lot of political intrigue is focused on The Pacific right now. A nation called Francos Spain attained UN Delegate status (by acquiring the most endorsements from other UN Members in the region) and he maintains his status by ejecting anyone who acquires enough endorsements to threaten his dominance.

At least one region was formed for the purpose of seizing control of The Pacific from Francos Spain. He seems to be a controversial figure.

Another ***SPOILER***

In NationStates, one area where one can afford to make budget cut-backs is National Defense.

This is because the model does not include any military system. So one's military strength is irrelevant.

When offered the choice to shrink one's defense budget, the strategic player will do so, and either dedicate those funds to other programs or lower taxes.

Some regions make a game out of role-playing military actions. They can get very involved! For instance, calculating an exact figure for one's military budget based on defense spending, the strength of one's economy, population and tax rate, then purchasing weapons systems and units using common criteria, then comparing arms depots.

Consequences can include loss of imaginary dollars, banning from a region or even turning over one's password and ceding the nation itself to one's rival.

But we don't play that way in Civfanatica. It's just a fun place to hang out.
