IO5 - Gotta Catch 'Em All!

Who is up next?

IdiotsOpposite
Matrix the Kitty
NeilMeister - just played
ParadigmShifter - up
BrianShanahan - on deck

That would be you.

Neil seems to have chosen Math after Hunting came in. Makes sense, all the better to chop out the GLH.

Currency after it, I guess. After taking down Asoka, we're in for a large expansion and buildup phase, so we'll need the money.

OK, I'll play tomorrow, beer to blame again.

100% correct. Maths for chopping and Currency.

Asoka is dead already, he just hasn't been informed yet. Both his cities are defended by 2 Archers, and we have 3 Axes sitting outside Patal, and 3 heading to/outside Vijay.

We did get hunting, but I wouldn't bother with any more troops. Troop support is already costing us a fair amount.
I don't even know where Alex is. I suspect he is on the other side of Qin.

Hopefully we get enough cash from Asoka's last 2 cities to finish researching Maths, then we can chop the GLH while researching Currency. After that, I wouldn't expect to have money problems again.

I'm not seeing a load of coastal sites for GLH. Looks to be a land heavy continent.

I'd have chopped the pyramids myself.

When we finish off Asoka, all but one of our cities will be coastal. Then, with some heavy REXing, we'll have some more coastal sites. Sure, we'll have inland sites too. The GLH will make coastal sites better than otherwise.

I'll make a dotmap later today.

I admit I am normally a Pyramids junkie, but the GLH will keep the economy going methinks. But this is obviously up for discussion.

Personally I think getting the economy back up and running is a lot more important than getting Rep.
And we can always try chopping out the 'Mids in Pallet or Pali.

I've played 13 turns.

Took quite a few risks. Captured 2 more cities, Asoka only has 1 left, and have a great general.

I'll do the write-up tonight or tomorrow. I may play the other 2 turns as well.

Economy is awful and I haven't been doing anything to get the GLH. I think we will probably miss it, it's 800BC already. I did pre chop the 2 forests near Pewter City so they only need 1 more turn of chopping each though.

ParadigmShifter, where's the report? Though I don't mind too much on the delay after the SNAFU I had back in World Wide Wonder.

Yeah sorry for the delay, I'll try and do it tonight but then again there is the footy...

If I don't do it tonight I'll do it tomorrow I promise.

Watch the Ireland game, you'll have plenty of opportunity to do the write up. Well that or fall asleep.

Banging headache tonight, I'll definitely do the write up tomorrow.

I'm an unreliable drunkard.

I played the rest of my turnset, I'll try and do a witty writeup when I am more sober.

Here's the save for Brian, the economy is rubbish.

Looking at the save, we've Asoka beat. 1 city and we've 1.8 on him power wise.
We've a GG in the forest NW of Patali, so I'm guessing he's going for settle in Pallet. Wait I see a warrior with Medic written all over him.

On the economy we're really bad, 40+ turns for Maths at 50% is slow. So I propose postponing all axe builds and rush libraries and workers asap. Patali and Pallet are our only reasonable cottage towns at the moment so continue that. LH GLH in Pallet I'm thinking too.
Tech is easy Maths>Currency>CoL, and then hope no-one has gone for Lit and the GLib.

I've also done a bit of dot mapping too. The blue are two desert fising villages, never be big but will contribute. The reds are blocking, with the eastern one probably better, but it's fogged.
The south green ones are what I think the best sites, we can work them around and even put in a few fillers. Here they are. The Northern dots are probably better than the Southern ones.

Yeah there is a woods 2 warrior who the GG is moving in for.

I was thinking build axes until Asoka is dead then sort out the economy.

The problem is cities having too small population from over whipping. The capital has 2 cottages which aren't being worked.

I'll do the write up in a couple of hours.

EDIT: there is an Indian axe to the east of our capital probably on his way there too.

Asoka's dead, the forces in former India are probably enough on their own. Economy is more improtant, I'd rather have a crippled Asoka for the next few centuries than be permanently left behind in tech.

Turn 0:

First move, first mistake... lets build a farm here... oh, we haven't got iron working.

Civ4ScreenShot0033-4.jpg

I move the worker to road and pre chop these 2 forests anyway.

Civ4ScreenShot0034-4.jpg

I figure the barb archer won't wander in yet since he is injured.

This is what Asoka has in Delhi

Civ4ScreenShot0035-4.jpg

Combat odds, not good, will need reinforcements.

Civ4ScreenShot0036-4.jpg

So I promote the shock axe to medic I

Civ4ScreenShot0037-4.jpg

Turn 1 of my set:

Barb axe is spotted near the capital.

Civ4ScreenShot0038-4.jpg

Turn 2:

Axe moves in. The Great Wall is built in a far away land

Civ4ScreenShot0039-4.jpg

So I move my axe to the hill to try and intercept the barb

Civ4ScreenShot0040-4.jpg

I was wrong about the barb archer healing before wandering in to Pewter City, whoops

Civ4ScreenShot0041-4.jpg

Looks like Asoka built... a galley???

Civ4ScreenShot0042-4.jpg

Axes still need to heal though

Civ4ScreenShot0043-4.jpg

I have to whip an axe in Pewter City, and the archer is about to pillage out copper... oops

Civ4ScreenShot0044-4.jpg

The barb axe near Pallet Town is killed though

Civ4ScreenShot0045-4.jpg

Next tech maths... 80 turns WTH???

Civ4ScreenShot0046-4.jpg

This dude kills the archer

Civ4ScreenShot0047-4.jpg

I'm a bit worried about Asoka's galley pillaging our seafood though

Civ4ScreenShot0049-4.jpg

Asoka's defence vs. our attack

Civ4ScreenShot0052-4.jpg

CRII axe doesn't have great odds so I sacrifice a noob

Civ4ScreenShot0053-4.jpg

But he wins, LOL

Civ4ScreenShot0054-4.jpg

Attempt suicide with another noob... he dies

Civ4ScreenShot0055-4.jpg

Better odds now... but still not really ideal

Civ4ScreenShot0057-4.jpg

He wins, and I nudge the mouse scrolling the screen

Civ4ScreenShot0058-4.jpg

Lost another axe. I also leave Delhi completely undefended despite there being a barb archer on the way... he'll pillage the farm first though. I'm gonna move some of the injured axes to Delhi to defend and heal

Civ4ScreenShot0058-4.jpg

Later on... still attacking and winning.

Civ4ScreenShot0059-4.jpg

Just 1 archer left now

Civ4ScreenShot0064-4.jpg

Oh, and the Oracle was built, confucianism was taken with code of laws. I'm thinking Qin may be to blame.

Last archer odds

Civ4ScreenShot0064-4.jpg

Bombay falls!

Civ4ScreenShot0080-4.jpg

To be continued...

I march the axes to the other city

Civ4ScreenShot0084-4.jpg

It falls

Civ4ScreenShot0085-4.jpg

We get a great general, so I look for the best medic unit... I find a warrior with 5 xp, so I give him woodsman 2, and run away from the Indian axe who he was fortified next to ;)

Civ4ScreenShot0086-4.jpg

The rest of the set was just moving the woods 2 warrior towards the GG and haeling after the attacks.

So Brian is up now.
