iPhone/Apple (redirect from Graphs & Charts)

iphone 4s is essentially two years newer than the Nexus S, and the Nexus line is renown for having terrible cameras. For pure photos, the Lumia 1020 is the best value phone.

Don't get a Galaxy S2, Samsung is awful. :( Only Android phones I'd recommend are the Nexus series or the HTC One. Nexus 4 goes for under $250 used (or $300 new) anyway, and is miles better than the S2.

Actually, I'm not sure why I wrote that  I plan on staying in the Nexus family. I didn't realize the iPhone 4s is newer than the Nexus S, that at least helps explain some of the differences.

Samsung isn't that bad. Touchwiz is not as awful as some make it out to be. Not hugely different from vanilla if you're a casual user and has some nifty stuff. Just stay away from the useless samsung apps. But yeah don't bother with anything less than an S3.
I'm most likely going to root the phone and install CyanogenMod or some such ROM. Touchwiz will not be a factor, if I do wind up with a S3

I got an iPhone because it's the easiest fit for my IT ecosystem. I use OSX instead of windows for the same reason I use metal cutlery instead of flint axes.

I'm on a 4S at present. I would never carry a smartphone without a beefy bumper case to protect it. I'm a bit worried that when the time comes to replace it, I'll have a choice of a massive mini-tablet or a plastic 5C type thing.

My wife uses an iPhone 4s, and it's remarkably good. It was in a case for over 18 months, when I took it out to install a new case the rear glass was shattered :-(

My only complaint are the limits on multitasking and the now-smallish screen size.

Other than that, it's a solid pocket computer.

Some time ago I've tried an iPhone 4, coming from a Nexus S with CM 10.1
My impressions were this:

-Why the f*ck does itunes have to take every single audio file in my pc and cram it on the playlist and therefore on the iphone? After maybe half an hour and some researches I still couldn't figure out how to delete the junk it downloaded. So itunes = useless piece of sh*t (let's fly over the fact that you have to use it in the first place)
-There's no poweramp on iOS, very big disadvantage because once you get used to the equalized sound, flat sound feels... Flat.
-No separate volumes for notifications, apps and alarm. One night when trying to sleep I kept getting whatsapp notifications and I couldn't silence it because that meant silencing the alarm.
-Reinserting the password to download every single app, even free ones
-The icons are basically a list, they can't be arranged on the sides as I do on android
-I'm forced to use safari

There were a few positive things:
-It was A LOT faster than my nexus s even though it's theoretically inferior
-It's nice to the touch and quite beautiful

Final verdict is that it's a good phone, but iOS ruins it. Not to mention that a 2010 single core still costs as much as a 2012 quad core (GS3)

iTunes: it does syncing management like on an iPod. 'Everything ever' might well be the default. You can manage it by ticking and in ticking artists, playlists and so on.

Audio: as it happens I had to replace my headset the other week and Apple was the only make that did what I want. I was pleasantly surprised by the bass in the new model.

Yeah, volume levels are a bit of a nuisance. I personally stick with an alarm clock and switch off my mobile before bed, so I don't mind that much. (You could go to Airplane mode to ck serve battery and disable incoming notifications during bedtime.)

I think if you grab apps in quick shccession, password isn't needed every time.

You can press and hold an icon to move it, and dropping it on another icon makes a folder.

Other web browsers are in the App Store, I've for Chrome on mine already.

Except that analogy is terrible because Windows and Mac OS are largely equivalent in capabilities, security, performance and reliability.

Flat sound is the best sound, get some better headphones.

Whatsapp is terrible on any platform, don't use it.

Safari is the de facto mobile standard, why would you be complaining about it?

Core count is pretty much irrelevant on phones.

Except non-Safari browsers on iOS are largely terrible, since they're forced to use the same rendering engine as Safari, minus the fast good Javascript engine (so they're basically exactly like Safari, except slower), and you can't set anything other than Safari as the default.
