ipod and itunes

Duck. You may be interested in the flac format - it is a lossless audio compression codec (I can't remember if itunes supports it or not, it might have its own proprietary format).

Oh OK then, is that accessible via iTunes as well, or another program?

Also MP3 at 320kbps has minimal loss, you would have to be very well trained to hear the difference.

Yeah, I can rarely hear the difference in 320kb/s, but my friends in the music industry point things out to me now that are in 320 mp3 format, and it is making me hear further compression... Damn!

iTunes unfortunately cannot play flac, but foobar2000 does I think (I would have to try it).

What kind of compression is he talking about, the digital compression or volume compression? They are two very different things and the latter has nothing to do with the medium or codic used

First mp3 player I had was the Archos 20GB Jukebox back in '02. Ran on 4 AA batteries. (!) Now it looks almost comically old-fashioned, but it still works.

It's nonetheless gathering dust after I got a 60GB ipod as a gift 2 years ago. It was free, and the ipod just looked so nice and was so much smaller.

However, Archos will probably be my next media player purchase... do you have any experience with the 605 160GB? About how big is that thing? Same size as an iphone? It looks pretty slick.

Ive had the 605 wifi for months now and it's perfect phenominal of course if you dont plan on watching movies on it it can be a little pointless.
