IRC, MP games don't work, but everything else does.

Here's a perplexing problem that developed this morning. All of the sudden, I can't connect to the IRC chatroom (server can't be reached), and I can't use any multiplayer games, like Civ3 PTW (it refuses to make an Internet type connection). I have a dialup, Win98 Pentium3 (667mhz, 384megs RAM).

Other things do work, like web browsing, FTP, ICQ, MSN IM. Any idea what's up?

try reinstalling the drivers for you modem.

On a hunch... last time MP was unresponsive, there was a worm in my computer. I downloaded a virus scanner and found:

If only I could convince my computer illiterate parents that I need a new one. (yes, I still live with my parents - long story)

I think I was able to get rid of the worm. Apparently, it didn't infect anything yet (it was laying dormant in an email), but I'm still having the same problems.

Well, apparently, the problem oddly fixed itself (after I loaded Trillian...). Maybe it was something in my computer, or something ISP related, like certain ports not working...
