Is anyone else disappointed by the quotes for Techs/Wonders?

Lol you keep telling yourself that hehe ;)

I duno; maybe you're late to the party, but Civ VI looks like it's easily more complex that CIV BTS, let alone CiV BNW :p

I thought quotes were well done in 4, but I'm surprised they stuck. I'd be cool if, whether a quote or not, instead was done some form of narration about your civ discovering iron working or irrigation.

I think it'd enhance the overall rp/narration of each playthrough. I also think Sean Bean's voice lends itself better to that style. Re-watch the gameplay narration that he did a few months back to get a sense of what I'm talking about.

Do you have a link to that? I think I'd enjoy just listening to his smooth rumble wax lyrical about all things Civ :)

I agree by alot. It was vulgar to watch those quotes. Bad choices from the Firaxis crew. Game losing style and gravitas from this.

I don't mind some of the humourous quotes but some of them are downright bad. Air conditioning for ancient Rome? :nono:

Not to thrilled about the introduction for all Civs, either. Don't push the "theory" of evolution on me. My ancestors didn't come out of the sea. ;) In all seriousness, they could have made that more neutral.

Agreed the quotes seem pretty strange, and predominantly modern.
Civ 5 had ok quotes but bad narration (sorry but he didnt do it for me)
Civ 4 was just great, especially steam power and sattelites :king:

Sean Bean does an amazing job, most quotes seem perfectly fine to me.

A lot of them, especially the modern "humorous" ones, were off-putting for me. Worst of all is that air-conditioning crack. Talk about immersion breaking!

I like the more lighthearted approach. I don't think Civ is particularly about gravitas, in any case.

I was a bit more concerned about the Dead Sea providing fresh water than the quote about it.

Anyone who objects to a bit of humour in their strategy games shouldn't come within a mile of civ games, that's my advice.

I think the quotes I heard so far are good, it's always hard to reinvent the wheel and top the previous games. And it's nothing new with fun quotes, satellites and computers from cIV spring to mind.

Awesome that they have multiple quotes, and also great that they did quotes for natural wonders!

Again it seems people are digging real deep to find something to criticize

They really have to change that. That's so :crazy eye:

I don't mind some bad quotes, as long as there are some that are really good after the third time you hear/read it.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime - The bar has been set pretty high, after all. Sean Bean is a pretty damn awesome choice but some of the quotes are kind of jarring. It isn't that important at the end of the day and if I get to hear Sean Bean say 'Odin' then I'm happy enough.

Apparently, this is the source of the Kilimanjaro quote.

I don't oppose humour, I oppose bad humour :p and too much humor when inappropriate.

Also, personally I like epic or deep quotes that force you to think for a little while, and introduce the feeling of "damn... I am making history..." (it sometimes can be achieved with funny quotes).

And the problem I have with some civ6 tech quotes I've seen so far is that they are killing the mood.
I don't know and don't care about American comedians and them speaking modern ironic quotes about ancient era technologies is really off putting for me.

On top of that, I would really love to see some quotes spoken by non Western people, for variety.
