Is anyone here experiencing a DX12 crash on launch that were not before the update?

If so, I would love to take a look at any .mdmp file that has appeared in the game exe directory that lines up (date and time) with your last crash.

Thanks all!

Good afternoon, I signed up to this board just for this post. I am getting a repeatable crash on leader screen in DX12 mode.

I have attached a CivilizationVI_DX12.exe.dmp file. Note that the forum wouldn't let me upload it without zipping it first.
Is that what you are looking for? Where in the game directory should I be looking? This was found under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Binaries\Win64Steam

Also, see attached DXDIAG. I am on an AMD Radeon Vega 64 with latest beta driver. The latest WHQL driver does this as well. (I also have a Geforce GTX 1080 based machine that doesn't do it.)

This is what the crash looks like when it happens:

I always click "yes" on the crash reporter.

I tried again in exclusive fullscreen mode (the previous try was from borderless windowed). It behaved a little differently, in that it gave a non-empty .dmp file this time.

Edit: added a zipped .log file that might be helpful.

I've been getting these frequently since the update.

Racha, when you see that, could you check the game exe directory for a crash dump? Additionally, zip up your logs and post them here. Thanks!

Our graphics engineer would like you to try clearing your shader cache in the driver control panel.

Let me know if this does anything for you. Thanks, and let me know!

Unfortunately, no dice. I actually tried that once before (clearing the AMD shader cache), but I did it again just now in order to get the .dmp file and refresh the log.

Are there any other shader caches I should delete? One inside steam, maybe? Also, I have tried disabling all in-game overlays (steam and AMD), but no change.

Was having same problem with a Vega 56 GPU and latest AMD WHQL drivers (20.4.2). Tried installing the non-WHQL drivers (20.5.1) and this has solved the problem for me. I'm now able to start a game on Ultra performance/memory settings using DX12.

I can confirm, updating to 20.5.1 resolved the crash on leader screen. I am seeing somewhat degraded turn time performance. The benchmark used to give a low 32-ish number. I just got 38-something. Might be worth looking into.

May need to get with AMD to have them push another WHQL driver out. Non-beta people aren't going to get this if they don't go looking.

I was having the same issues on Nvidia drivers (RTX 2060) using DX12. The game would BSOD 20-40mins of play on a standard map. However when I switched back to DX11 and used medium settings I was able to play for 3+ hours with no issues.

I have an drastically increase in CTD, after NFP was released. I bought it on launch, so have no clue if the NFP or vanilla updates that be contributing to this. The CTD are sometime with the popup racha attached, with random "Error reading address".
I get CTD in mainly 4 different ways, but not all the time;
  • Dragging around the map with mouse
  • Clicking "Next Action" in lower left corner
  • Clicking (and/or double clicking) in too rapid session in city or unit screen
  • On AI turn.
Sometimes I can just reload my autosave file, and do exactly the same things, and move pass the crash point. And sometimes I need to click something else, check a random unit or city, and I will pass the crash point.
Very rarely must I go back several autosaves, to drastic change my gameplay, to pass the crash point. I've also had instances where I had to take graphics down to low to pass the crash-point.

I'm running a i7-5820K and a 1080ti (none are overclocked), and the game on a Samsung EVO SSD, OS on separate SSD. Have played over 3000h on DX12 version, and never had this amount of issues before. Now I feel that DX11 version and having medium settings, are "more" stable. Have also added the Civ.exe's to exceptions list in Windows Defender, and letting Civ6 pass the Windows Protected Folder-filter, that normally shields My Documents. But crashes still.
Yes, I'm running some mods, so that could contribute to this. Also my Windows 10 hasn't been reinstalled for ages, and running Nvidia 442.59
But I find it odd, that several others also have issues with CTD after NFP was released... My lack of software maintenance can't be blamed alone...

I knew I had to update Nvidia, so I did a Guru DDU and installed 451.48.
And as expected, it crashed after a few turns...

I really suspect that #something in NFP are partial cause in this increase number of crashes...

That's the funny part... No errors in either Lua.log, Database.log or Modding.log...

Update: Interesting... Have played over 10 hours now, but in Strategic view. No issues, then I started to get freezes for 10 sec (instant from 60 to 1 fps) just by zooming in/ out or panning over the map.

I'm having this exact same issue. Sometimes it happens while my game is loading, and some other times it happens whil I'm playing. I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti and I didn't get any error before the update. Also, I've checked my Nvidia drivers and I'm playing with version 451.67, so I don't think it's outdated.
I don't know where to look up my crash log, so that's what I know about it.
