After all it is usually brought up in a context that reduces them to their femaleness in an at least partially sexual way.

Have feminists already attacked the word?

Its not derogatory. If anything its a compliment. Im sure the ugly girls would like to hear that for once. However the good looking ones are just fed up with it.

Would you be offended if a chick called you a stud? I cant say i would be.

Are you guys aware that there are feminists out there who regard "woman" to be a derogatory term for, well, women?

I prefer "female specimen #(insert code number) of district (insert district name)" instead of “chick.”

So it would go something like this, "female specimen #00029476 of district number 37 has above average physical features. Let us commence with the mating ritual."

Considering how extreme the demand for political correctness sometimes goes nowadays, I'm saddened to say I am not surprised.

I hate PC! I dropped my english class for many reasons. One of those reasons was because the professor was too politically correct.

I couldnt even use the word "mankind" in any of my reports.

Yes, the feminist movement as a whole seems to be woefully ignorant of English etymology, even beyond the fact that they're completely paranoid about dictating acceptable vocabulary.

I don't know about how women view it now but it certainly used to be viewed as derogatory when the slang came into being.

When I hear this, I spout off a series of real derogatory terms and "woman" doesn't seem so bad anymore.

It probably used to be, but now ***** has replaced chick. Anytime I refer to a girl I don't respect, or speak to a girl I don't like, I usually use "*****" or "whore" or sometimes I"ll throw in "******".

When you're actually talking to a girl you like, respect, are friends with, or whatever, you sound like an IDIOT stuck about 10-15yrs ago when you call girls chicks. You certainly don't look cool.

This is true.

I certainly don't ever use it to refer to women, I think it's a stupid and disrespectful term. But on a scale of derogatory appellations, it hardly registers, and I wouldn't attempt to censor its use by any means.

I use it sometimes when girls aren't present, but I'd be careful using it in mixed company.

"Chick" is only a derogatory term because of the context in which it is most used. Other slang words are used in good ways (X mentioned "stud"), and if the word chick was, I think it would be considered a compliment
