Lets take asurvey of its success failure/rate. If you have the time please also post an aswer here describing your result and your platform.

PC Type Custom Built

Processor Pent. 3 1.0 Ghz
Ram 256 Ram
Video Card Geforce 3
Sound card Soundblaster Plat.
Windows ME

Running the game on 1024X768, 24bit I think.
Huge world, 16 civs.

Running just fine with no crashes so far or problems but I havent played a whole lot yet.

Celeron 366
160 MB RAM
ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X Graphics Card (integrated  )
3dfx Monster 3DII
Windows 98
(Yes, I know my system sucks, but it should still run this game if it runs games like Half Life, etc)

Title screen: text mixed together.
World settings screen- illegal operation when I click the little "O" button.

Custom PC

PII-300Mhz
128MB SDRAM
STB Velocity 128 AGP
running Windows 2000

Runs fine, I've only started ONE new game and it did crash about 2.5 hours into it, stack dump, W2k error msg, had to Ctrl-alt-Delete it. Too early to say and in any case, I'm upgrading to an AMD 1.0gig Thunderbird with 256MB of 2100 DDR RAM soon anyway...

Jay

IBM Thinkpad laptop.

PIII-800

256 Ram

Laptop screen and video card

No slow down or anything (well, except for work, but that's another story :D )

Ive played a grand total of 14 hrs and I havent experience anything abnormal...no crashed, freezed, glitches, slowdowns or wavy lines across my screen...hehe...Its been a blast...

Win98
AMD 800Mhz
updated sound and video cards
256 ram...

Played about 5 hours last night, ran like butter.

PIII-800
512MB Ram
Matrox G400 Max video
Sound Blaster PCI512
Windows 2000

Dell PIII 500 Mhz
128 MB Ram
Viper 770 Ultra/TNT2 card w/ 32 MB

Can start a game, and it plays for about 10 minutes before a catastrophic crash (illegal opearition window that can not be closed, and can not switch to desktop or other applications) that forces me to reboot each time.

For the 10 minutes of each session, before it crashes, it is VERY slow, about 1 sec pause between each unit moving (even when same unit, moving on a road!), maybe 2 seconds to open a city screen.

Have tried various different resolutions and other tips from the Civ3 support site, to no avail. Running latest drivers.

Not the newest rig on the block, but well above the required AND recommended systems. Very, very disappointing.

BARE MINUMUM! NO PROB! (a little slow sometimes)

Dell computer
Pentium 2 300mhz
128mb RAM
32MB Voodoo

Standard World (Earth) 8 civs. Up to 700 AD there's been no problems except the advisors and civopedia are a little slow at times.

Ido not have it yet either, if there are too many no votes here I will cancel my order and wait until a fix is available.

Ack. I have to turn the game music off so that it doesn't run like ****. I have a system quite comfortably above the system requirements, pentium III, but sometimes it skips like a mo'fo. Most of the time, actually. Turning off the music helps, though. I wonder if there is anything else I could do to make it run smoother? Having said that though, no crashes or anything like that, although there is one weird thing, that being that I cannot ALT-TAB out of the game! my desktop start menu is always at the bottom of the screen, even as I play. I don't understand this, if anyone knows, please reply.......

1.2 GHz AMD
256 MB Ram (266)
TNT2 Ultra graphics
Windows XP Professional

It works like a dream!

In the sense that the game functions without technical errors. Although I think the editor froze my computer..

However, I'm not sure the game is working correctly when the enemies' units (Sans roaming tribes who are almost no threat against an equal or greater force) win consistently even though the statistics favor me. I do not appreciate two Warriors defeating an Archer and Spearman (And the Archer got to attack.) I know it was just Halloween, but I didn't care to witness the Egyptian War Chariot That Would Not Die. And I feel guilty for all the lives I've lost attacking enemy cities.

"Ha! I've got them outnumbered, outgunned, and outmaneuvered! There's no way I'll lose this fight! I- huh? Oh God.."

Another thing that bugs me. Does anyone else get the feeling that the AI acts as a single entity? Although it will pit the computer players against each other, when they come up against me it seems all too willing to unite them on a whim.

All of this on Chieftain Level, too.

Note to developers (Not just Firaxis, this is universal):

If the AI needs cheats in order to institute [artificial] difficulty, you did something wrong.
If the AI is ridiculously hard to a veteran on a setting that is supposed to be introductory, you dropped the ball. In the sewer. And got stuck trying to get it out. And had an Alligator eat it. And you. And then your house burned down. And then..

And don't even get me started on the crappy starting positions and crucial resources that have an aversion to appearing near my civilizations..

I'd love to vote but despite living in Canada I can't get it yet. The closest place to here told me well he thought they would have it by Friday since he thinks it is a popular one. (Restraining myself I left the store without ranting and raving )
The bigger store also did not have it when it was supposed to. I am ssuming that this might be a byproduct of living in a city filled with old people. I didn't pre-order because everywehre I went seemed pretty clueless about the whole thing. It better be somewhere by Friday though ! :crazyeyes

My system;

P3/800, 392 Mb ram, GF2 64Mb SB live ... well that's what matters right! I run Win2000 and just today Civ3 crashed, with an errormessage from w2k. I hope it is temporary!
