Is it wrong that I can't play anything other than true-start location maps?

I used to regularly play on pangea or continents but ever since I discovered TSL maps, I can't go back. It doesn't feel authentic to me otherwise.

Ditto (pangea or continents maps), but I almost always play with the PerfectWorld 3 map mod. So, instead of me answering your question, can you tell us about the TSL maps?

it's your game, you can do whatever you want with it, as long as you relax that "anything i want" to not include cheating in multiplayer.

It's definitely *WRONG*! Because I'm a random internet user, and my personal opinions about how you live your life are incredibly important and you should alter your behaviors/lifestyle/beliefs to fit my interpretation of reality!

;)

Seriously though, how could it be wrong? I went through a "real earth/starting locations" phase for a while and really enjoyed it. Personally, I prefer random maps because it removes the advantage of knowing the world's layout, it increases the sense of discovery, and extends replayability for me. Also, many earth maps are so unbalanced with regards to land... ie Europe is too small for Civ 5.

I used TSL for a while. I think maybe they artificially increase the sized of Europe for gameplay reasons? Well, some of the earth maps do, which I think is a good compromise.

Enjoy the game the way you like to play it!!

Ever since the distance between cities was increased I've had trouble with the standard earth map. Even on a large map there are invariable 1-3 CS's that never settle, and it just feels a bit too cramped unless you start in africa or N america (alone in both cases obviously). In general with maps I used to play a lot of standard sized continents, but now I've gone to a pretty good mix of 4 corners, fractal, continents, and pangea, all on large now. Continents + turned me off the first time I played it b/c all the CS's were on small islands, which incidentally also connected me to the other continent.
