I also wonder if it would be worth lower archer defense a bit, too. When using mounted against enemy archer units from an era ago, the "system" works how people try to claim, that mounted counter range. So horsemen against archers, knights against composites, etc.
Equal era though, doesn't work out too well. A knight will charge a crossbow, take damage on both sides, then the knight dies the next turn and the crossbow heals up.
Not sure how the AI would cope with such a change though. They do seem to go heavy on the knights rather than crossbows, so it may actually be in their favor.
