Is Quick harder than Standard Game Speed?

I used to play only Standard for years, but then went to quick, and now I can't imagine waiting so many turns for workers to complete things let alone buildings and technologies to finish.

I notice most of the Immortal/Deity challenges are in Standard mode, is that because it's to hard to win on Quick at this level?

Does game speed affect starting build order decisions?

No I'm pretty sure many would still win quick speed. So it's not too hard. It's just... not standard.

But yes it's a harder difficulty. Especially for domination (shorter windows of opportunity) and culture (nerfed GM bomb).

Size also has influence for these 2 victories, smaller = easier.

It depends who your opponents are. If you're on a duel-sized Pangaea with the Huns, quick pace doesn't sound so bad. But yeah generally slower paces are easier.

It will severely hamper early and midgame warmongering since by the time you slog through all the swamps and forests your units will be outdated on Deity.

You can win Sciense/Diplo just fine IMO, as well as Culture if you get a stong culture civ.

Certain things didn't really scale properly, so I'd say Science and Diplo win is easier but Domination and Culture not so much. Especially Culture, since the error in programming made the GM bomb scaling quadratic instead of linear.

No, that is not why most of the Immortal/Deity challenges are in Standard mode. They are in Standard mode just to make the challenges more relevant to compare against the other games in the series. Standard size and pace is what most players use and what the developers tuned everything for. Changing map size and pace has a bigger impact on difficulty than civ choice, and there is already so much variability and RNG from game-to-game, that changing size/pace makes it hard to compare your play experience with other's.

I don't think so, but I hope to see other replies to this question!

Yeah. I can usually get a religion on Large (Deity) but can't do so without a faith civ on Standard, they are too few to go around.

Yes it is, just because you have to do the same amount in a shorter time span, requiring more precise movements. On standard or higher, you have the same amount of space, and more movement as a result of more turns. On quick small errors can pile up more easily (production lost by not setting city to prod focus is more valuable on quick then standard, for instance).

I usually play Quick and Small (only 6 civs) as opposed to Standard because I find the map and game play a bit to long and slow, and also those 2 extra civs that are a lot farther away make Emperor much harder. I am winning most of the time and I want to bump up the difficulty, but I don't want to wait forever for things to happen.
