Is there a "one-year-per-turn" mod?

On "Epic" speed, a single turn still takes 40 years! FORTY YEARS! I'm barely even starting my second city (I try to get my first city into a self-sustaining city-state before I expand; kind of like how a small business owner will make sure his first store is turning a stable profit before he opens up shop elsewhere), and we're approaching the birth of Christ!

And I'm on settler difficulty!

I get the feeling that Marathon is only going to be 20 years per turn (though I'm running into some technical difficulties installing that patch, so I can't confirm for sure).

Is there a mod out there that slows down the pace of the game to a crawl? Ideally, I'd like each turn to only be one single year. A total of 6,050 turns before someone has a "time" victory (frankly, time victories are supposed to only be a last resort, anyway).

Does such a mod exist?

hi,

first off,

why did you post this thread under "mod componants?
cant you see this is for completed stuff only?
read the info b4 posting.

second of, welcome to civ fanatics :)

third,
dint you know that the time moves fast on early times? havnt you noticed this in your civ games?

fourth,
there is no one mod that does what you ask, cause, all it is is just a small change to a file names:
civ4gamespeedinfo.xml
under the assets \ xml \ gameinfo folder.
create your own mod folder under:
civ 4 install path on your cpu \ mods \ yourmodname \ assets \ xml \ gameinfo \ civ4gamespeedinfo.xml

then edit the file - youll see for each speed in the game there are increment levels that define how many turns are defined as months :
somehting like:
40 turns are 260 month.

the increment duplicates are counted as the amount of eras - so, just change al the 360, 180... and so on month increments to 1.

that will make that each trun equal 1 month.

good luck!!!

He wanted 1 year each turn, not 1 month :D

I did what you said. However, when I try to open up this XML file, it just takes me to a page on Internet Explorer (weird, considering that Firefox is my default browser) which I can't edit. Makes me wonder why they don't just have it in a txt file.

How do I access this file in an editable-and-savable format?

Ok, I opened it up with notepad, except... I can't save. I can only save to a brand new file, but the old file is still there.

But before you do, have you considered the consequences?
It will be messed up, i can tell you. Tech researching times, unit amounts, buildings, etc. Messed up i tell you ;)

Messed up in what way?

As far as I understand the suggested change to CIV4GameSpeedInfo.xml, it's entirely cosmetic: After 1000 turns, the game will display 3000 B.C., but you'll still have 1000 turns worth of research, and thus probably all modern technologies.

If you want more (and better developed) cities early on, I don't think Epic or Marathon speed will make a big difference -- you get more turns than on Normal speed, but everything develops more slowly: growth, buildings, improvements. You'd have to look into changing the "i...Percent" parameters in CIV4GameSpeedInfo.xml, and probably either make research slower or everything else faster.

You'd think there is a mod for this, but the two I found in the database (search term "slow") look half-baked:
"Slow Tech Mod" by Argonath, 2012
"slower research for 'epic'" by Eero, 2013
It seems that research will lag behind the real timeline. Industrialism in 1945 doesn't sound reassuring (Eero's), and Argonath's mod appears to only increase tech costs (no other changes).

The simplest would be to play on Marathon, unmodded, and imagine that your first city represents an entire province ...

Game year is not entirely cosmetic.
AFAIK, at least culture is dependent on it, as there are some buildings where culture output doubled after 1000 years.

Well, it does now... just extract into the Mods folder (you will find the 0002_OTOY mod then, and you will have to load it after having started up Civ IV BTS 3.19).

Don't know if this is what you had in mind, though?
I have made the gamespeeds with increased tech- and production-costs to match the slowness of the game... (it does take a looong time to research stuff and build units here...).

If you prefer it otherwise, it is easy to go into the files to change the costs to whatever you want. Just say the word...

PS!
And if I have overlooked something (like, say, it doesn't work... - let me know, OK?).

Yours Sincerely
Kjotleik of Norway :)
