Is there any way to destroy your own city?

I've tried but I can't find a way to ... you can't build Settlers or Workers to do it either.

This makes cultural absorbtion less attractive, since you are stuck with AI city placement.

Anyone know if it is possible, and if so how?

Thanks.

Building settlers/workers to disband cities works fine for me. If it doesn't work, you can convert all citizens to entertainers and starve the city. :flamedevil:

Thank you for replying!

However I can't get it to work. I had tried before, and after your post I went and tried again. Even when all the needed shields are there, my cities wait until they have enough population to make the worker without disbanding. They won't make it before that.

Did you really get a city to disband? Is there some sort of trick to it? I would do this in Civ 1 and 2, but can't do it in 3.

Further, turning everyone to an entertainer has never worked because you can't stop food production from the city center square itself.

Something I'm missing I hope? Otherwise as far as I can tell you can't disband your own cities. This only matters because it kind of ruins cultural assimilation since you are stuck with the AI's city positioning.

When you are about to disband the city, a dialog box will pop up telling you that if you continue the settlers/workers production, the city will be disbanded. You can choose to proceed with the prodcution (i.e. disband the city) or wait'til the city has a high population. You most likely picked the second option....

Try reinstalling game. That might help.

When you first get the city, raze it instead of sending a govener. Since you are past that point I'd suggest asking the civ3 customer assistance at http://www.ina-support.com/faq/civ3_pc.asp and try to figure out what you need to do. I looked at it for 10 minutes and all I could figure out is how to buy the hint manual. But[/b[ the information should be there somewhere!

I played around with it a lot and finally got it!

You have to make the city have zero food growth to be able to disband it. Otherwise it just waits until the population is high enough to build without disbanding. So thats why my cities, which had food surplus, weren't disbanding.

Cool, now I can culturally absorb knowing I can still get rid of the cities.

Now I have to see if a 1 pop city can disband into a Settler...

Thanks for helping! I had written it off as not doable.
