  • Yes, all units should have +1 movement speed like Gran Colombia

  • Yes, but it's fine for early game (for exploration), have later policy or tech help boost movement

A common complaint about late game civ VI is that the game becomes extremely micro heavy. Usually you will end up with a large amount of units that all need to be moved individually each turn.

After having played Gran Colombia for a bit now, I feel like the game just plays better with the boosted movement. Moving units from here to there requires less micro as all the travel times are generally shortened.

I'm not sure the solution is to just boost everything, as I feel like he movement speeds early game a quite reasonable, but when manoeuvring 3-5 Infrantry units in the modern era, all of which constantly block each others' movement - I just get tired of playing the game honestly.

One solution in my mind is to buff the Logistics policy card from Mercantilism to work outside of your own territory as well. This would make it an extremely valuable card and maybe make red policy slots a bit more worthwhile at the same time. Alternatively, one of the later techs (Mobilization for example) could give a flat +1 to all ground unit movement speeds. Ships already have several techs like this to boost their movements through the eras, same for embarked units.

I feel like between Great Generals, supply convoys, Logistics, unit promotions and modern roads, there are plenty of boosts to movement speed. Rocket artillery that can move up to 10 tiles and shoot up to 5 away is devastating. Planes don't use movement either. I'd recommend using cavalry (tanks and helicopters) for rapid city capture during late game wars.

I think the reason late game wars can feel like a chore sometimes is because the game is already decided by that point - there isn't much tension and you're just going through the motions.

my only problem is leftover movement points that just goes to waste and force me to click skip turn on the units in order to get rid of the end-turn blocker
Those leftover <1mp provide an opportunity to take a promotion, upgrade or merge into a larger unit, without sacrificing more movement points. In this respect they are useful.

Yeah, GG + Supply Convoy + 2nd promotion means your infantry troops are already moving 5 tiles a turn. Supply convoys can be a slight pain to move around - I wouldn't terribly mind if they were changed to have an effect radius of 2 like generals, so that I could more easily just attach them to a current unit and forget about them.

The biggest change I would like to see would simply be a better and easier way to build a railroad network. Give my engineer a "build railroad to..." which would simply move and lay track, and that would go a long way. It would also be useful to better be able to airlift units around - most of the time I'm invading someone without airports, so I have to slow walk guys around the globe. If it was changed so that you could move units from a city with an airport to a tile with an airfield, that would be huge.

The thing is, in an offensive war, most of the time you're moving through enemy territory. So while having railroads helps bring reinforcements to the front line quickly, it's mostly the enemy infrastructure that you're using during fighting. And I don't know what your observations are, but I've very rarely seen the AI build railroads. If it did, that would speed up wars significantly imo.

In any case, I'm all up for easier railroad building and airlifting.

Yeah, I can't remember any AI railroads either, although that brings up another point - you shouldn't be able to use AI railroads, only ones in your territory, and you should be able to pillage them (and bridges) for maybe a small gold bonus. But if you had simpler ways to build railroads, then it might actually make sense to bring a military engineer with your on a conquest so that he can be laying track for you behind the front lines.

So in a few cases they can be utilized, doesn't mean that they aren't being wasted 99% of the time

From the immersion perspective getting full use of enemy road and rail infrastructure is very frustrating and should be reduced to clear-terrain speed. EDIT: It was egregious back in the days of Civ2, and it is no better now.

And the instant teleport from any mountain tunnel to any other tunnel that is non-adjacent freaks me out (since I just saw it vividly demonstrated).

They should just go back to the Civ V style of movement, where if you had any movement left at all, you could move.

Movement speed should not be static; it should vary based on Map Size and Game Speed.

Don't really know how to answer the poll.

I have grown used to base movement speeds as they are, but I do think roads, particularly later roads and railroads, don't provide enough movement bonus. I have modded it so that movement is faster in late game, and I like that.
