Isn't anyone bothered by the humor in Civ4 and 3?

I love the humor, actually. Makes the game fun. Elvis is a perfect choice for culture. What this game needs, though, is more cowbell.

I love the fact they try to make it lightharted by adding some humor in there :) and BTW you can NEVER have enough cowbell....just not possible!!:goodjob:

The humor in the Civ franchise really helps to lighten things up a bit. I personally like it and shows that the developers have a sense and appreciation for the brigthers things in life. That adds a plus in my book to a really great game.

I hated how the ruler faces looked in Civ 3, but they look a lot better in 4 from the screenshots. It was one of the many reasons I continue to play Civ 2 and not 3.

I like having humor mixed in with my games. But Civ's humor has always been pretty stale, IMO. They could do a much better job with it. Blizzard games are a good example of doing humor right.

Just don't expect Blizzard to do much else right if it means they might have to admit they don't know the answers to everything and were wrong in soemthing they put into the game. They will -never- take that bit back, but will nbalance/break everything else in an attempt to keep a mistake in.

As for the topic thread, I like the humor in the Civ series. I loved the advisor's in Civ2. :D "Hail to the king baby"

Speaking of humor...wouldn't it be funny if this game was delivered via STEAM?

am also with the minority here, a little humor never hurts but a caeser salad joke?! that's as bad as if they threw in knock-knock jokes when you assaulted a city or something:
"Knock-knock"
"Who's there?"
"The English army"
The English army who?"
"The English army who's here to kill you!"
Hahahaha......nope.

But seriously.... :cringe:

I believe that the humor in in the game to remind you that it is indeed -- just a game. ;)

It did? I don't remember it. I guess I was just too young and dumb to get it back then.
Uhm, you don't remember the newspaper headlines in Civ I or the quarelling advisors in Civ 2?

I don't think the humor is stale. After you have seen the joke so many times, you sorta read over it. Like in Civ # when Montezuma says "Greetings we have noticed your cute little civilization" Kinda funny the first few times, you don't even notice it after your 10th game, I suspect it will be the same for Salad

I just loved it when my scientists informed me that "compared to you, most people have the IQ of a carrot."

Nah, the humour doesn't really bother me.

It is probably going to be the easiest thing to mod...most likely parsed from a simple text file...much easier than graphics.

I'm sure that will be one of the first things I will do for the stuff that is really lame... until I learn how to make a unit then the Roman Legion will be BACK!

I just hope that the French say "You're Mother was a hampster and you're Father smells of alderberries!" Though that's probably copyrighted.

That is an awesome idea.:D What is they recruited John Cleese to do the voices. If they could get the rights fine, if not, just Pythonesque humor would be the way to go. Maybe I have not been getting my view across. I love the humor, just as long as they keep it witty and intellectual and not stupid. That is just my fear.

Headlines from Civ I:
"Lions Defeat Gladiators 9-0!"
"We Love King? Latest Poll Results."
"Crusade Ends in Disaster. Press Blamed."

And let's not forget the Dan Quayle score chart at the end.

Civ II had that hilarious advisor screen, with the Elvis Impersonator arguing with the beefy military advisor about priorites...

I'm just pizzed the jokes are not written in the native tounges of the speakers. Everyone knows Hindi and latin right?

So you think the caeser salad joke is witty and intellectual?
Just checking.

Now that stuff was entertaining and witty. Maybe the caeser salad joke is just an unfortunate anamoly (i hope so), I'm just saying that from what we've seen so far (again, don't have the game yet so there's a good chance this is hugely exaggerrated) it seems they went a little too silly this time around.

EDIT: and like oldStatesman said, this should be easily editable, so it's up to the people in these forums to churn out some good stuff. This could be fun actually
